I bought a 2003 grenade Patrol in 2010, before that I had a 1998 Land Rover discovery.
Lucky for me to ZD 30 engine blew up within 20,000 km of me acquiring the vehicle. So 140,000 km I had a choice to cut my losses or buy new engine. I bought a new long engine and put it in the car, found out what modifications needed to be done to supposedly prevent it happening again, now on 400,000 km and still running (not on wood).
The car is still basically stock, I have had to replace the intercooler because the original was leaking (they stuck some glue all over the hole but it made no difference, it still leaked). My fourth gear synchromesh started playing up so I have replaced my gearbox, and yesterday using the information from this website I replaced the bearing in the front of the air conditioning pump. I did get a quote from mechanic locally and was going to cost me $1800 to have the pump replaced, thanks to the information from this forum I was able to replace it myself at a cost of $65. ($40 for the harmonic balancer puller and $25 for the bearing). It took me about 2 1/2 hours to do it and am very happy with the outcome – no grinding noise in the front of my car.
Thanks heaps
Dave
