Hey guys have an 08 gu wagon. Has knock in front end when corning and coming on and off curbs. Thought it was swaybar links so took it out no difference. Tyre shop told me it was the draglink so got one from the wreckers put it in no change. Underneath the car turning the draglink by hand sounds like the knock is coming from the rubbers (tie rod ends) and worse from the rubbers on the similar looking bar behind the diff. Noise it makes while under car turning wheel sounds identical to noise it makes when driving. Is it possible that the rods just need pulling out and re greasing? The rubbers on them look a bit dry. Bushes all look good any ideas appreciated, wheel bearings and kingpins are sweet checked that all.

My GQ has the same problem, haven't had a decent look yet but I think mine is shocker rubbers are shagged , I also know I have some body mounts that need swapping .
Will be interesting to hear any suggestions on this one .

This is a problem that can be either easy or very hard to find. I would check the top bush in the front panhard rod. This rod goes from left to right and is in front of the front diff. Its mounted to the diff on the left side then goes up on an angle to the chassis. The bush at the top is a spherical bush, it pivots inside itself. The pivot part of the bush does wear out and will give you a clunking noise when turning.
You can remove the pin holding this rod in and then drop the rod out of the chassis bracket and then put the pin back into the bush, or something longer and try to pivot the bush and feel if its smooth or notchy.

Other than this bush, it could be the front springs shifting on their seats, tie rod ends, but if these were gone I dare say you would see more issues. Out of wheel alignment would be one of them. But still could be. Shot radius arm bushes maybe. The radius arms are the two arms that run longways on either side of the diff to the chassis. Get a pry bar in there and see if you can get any movement from the bushes, two per side mounting to the bottom of the diff. Also there is rear bushes on these arms. worn out body mounts it could be. Doubt it though.

Check the panhard rod bush first though. Your Patrol has a bit of age to it, so these things will be wearing out if they haven't been replaced already.

Thanks for the replies. Owned a gq ute til recenrly and replaced every bush and suspension component in it due to age and wheel wobble so it's not new to me completely. Should point out car has very new looking springs shocks and dampener although springd are only kings and shocks and dampener are ultima king (2 inch lift) so its not quality gear but it is near new. Bushes all seem ok albeit a bit old so will start with that but i really think its coming from the arm behind the diff as can really hear it from the tie rod rubber area whilst laying under the car very mucu sounded like the clunk i hear from the inside. The draglink i brought from a wrecker so for all i know that one could be rooted too.
