Needing info about whether a high flow turbo in my Gu 4.2 Patrol is causing my low down lag and torque issues .Had a dyno tune ,but didnt help.Been advised to replace with standard turbo.Any turbo techs out there can help me find the right path........Thanks

There are plenty of options out there that out perform standard turbo td05, garrett gtx28 etc. What do you want to achieve?

I currently run a kinugawa billet td05 18g with 8cm turbine housing with 12mm pump boost starts at around 1700 full boost 25psi at 2400 load dependant and holds boost to 4000rpm. Previous turbo was a gt2860 boost response was awesome full boost 18psi at about 1500rpm but ran out of puff about 3000rpm. The Td05 with a 6cm rear housing would probably suit a standard pump better or a gtx28 with a .63 turbine housing.

Where are you located?

Where was the "high flow" turbo sourced from?

Ok. The stock unit is ok as it is but will not see any gains from modifying it. Which is what you are seeing.

Which engine combination/ patrol model do you have?

Do you have any other modifications? Budget?

Fairly stock then. Do you have a copy of the dyno? Do you know if the timing was adjusted when they tuned it?

There are 2 options I think will work for you if I cant help point you in the right direction with your current setup.

Ok. The injector pumps on these motors can be a bit funny if the timing is altered to much. It can have undesirable effects as you describe.

You could swap the turbo and for the most part it will be better but you wont see its full potential if the pump is playing up. MudRunnerTD knows about getting the timing set right on a td42ti motor.

It is usually evident on the dyno run so if you could get a copy then it will go a long way to giving you a more precise outcome.

Your dyno tuner should.be able to just press print. There is no reason why they cant supply it. Your log will be saved against your regi nu.ber and should be readily available. Event if you go in there and ask them to pull it up and take a photo of it will help a lot.

Newby is your man mate. If your timing had been altered it will cause heaps of issues and can really hold the engine back.

Follow through with the dyno print before spending money.
