Hi every 1 this has probably been covered before gut i can not find the posts but i have issues with my 1996 GQ RD 2.8 Power Steering.
It was hard to steer and had a slight leak from the return line when i brought it.
While i had the return line off i gave the power steering system a flush before fitting the new line.
Although there is now no leaks any more and it steers slightly better while driving when the engine rev,s drop or when i am at idle it seems like i have lost all power steering.
I have checked the belt and tension and they appear to be OK i am not sure if it is the pump or box.
Has any body else had the same problem and if so can you please advise me on how to fix
Thanks in advance
Regards Geoff

sorry my bad it was the low pressure hose back to the reservoir that was leaking and i changed.

What size is the hose is on the the low pressure side of the pump. It should be larger than the high pressure hose. Is there any kinks in the hoses? Check that the metal hoses haven't been crushed/crimped. Jack up the front axle and check that the swivel / knuckle bearings haven't been done up too tight. (Too many or all of the shims removed)

So it was the right size. If it is too small a diameter it will cause the pump to cavitate. Learned that from experience.

Not sure on the GQ pumps but on the GU there is like a diverter thingo (sorry cant remember the correct term) in the pump outlet which operates back and forth depending on revs etc. Mine was a little sticky when i did my pump rebuild. Cleaned it out with brake cleaner and its seemed to have helped
