Have a 1988 long wheel base Safari with TD42 engine. As been a very reliable vehicle but now has cold start problem. Looks like glow plug timer issue so thought I get some advice from this forum.

Welcome to the forum , do you live in a cold area ? It's possible that's your problem , I had the same problem and changing out the glow plugs did didly squat for starting .
But it is normally one two or more glow plugs on their way out , either that or your not getting power to them .
