Ok, lets give it a go for a bit and see what happens.

We are on a pretty big website plan now so we'll see how it goes for anyone who signs up can download the manuals. When you think about it if some needs the manual then they are obviously having problems and will hopefully be appreciative of the source and come back to the forum, etc.

If someone ever sees the forum severly slow down or even crash can they please PM me or if you are a regular or even a new member and wants my mobile number to ring me if it all goes to poop then let me know and I'll give you my number just incase as I have no idea how this will pan out.

Fingers crossed!

At least from now on we won't get spamming posts and the forum will keep on chugging with only posts from people who actually have a question or just want to be a part of it, etc....And, It's less stressful for some of us too...lol

HAPPY DAYS!!!

Now what am I going to to for excitement, you've taken away the thrill of the chase trying to ban spammers before they get to 25 posts. And worse still now I have to break it to my night shift security team (the 3 stooges +1) that their services are no longer required! I'm sure they will be most disappointed that they now have no reason to call me in the middle of the night.

All good mate, we'll see how it goes.

I'm back at work tomorrow from my Easter break...very depressed right now mind you!!!

I'm back on board monitoring the forum memory so lets see how we go this week and if it falls apart then we may have to go back...As mentioned before we rank at the top of Google for the Patrol manuals so we may get abused with downloads beyond our level so lets play it by ear...

Dangerous move offering your mobile number for 'on call' help.

Hope people don't ring you up on the peace at 3am asking how you and your troll are going.

Then again, you do run the show and can discretely ban them for a period. lol

Seriously I think it's probably the easiest way to deal with this, otherwise the Admin's get continuously pestered.

The 25 post rule has been reinstated for now due to manual downloads slowing the forum down.

Yes, I just had to change it back to the 25 post rule unfortunately guys.

The forum slowed up to almost a hault, I rung my website provider and they said we just munched through over 2.5GB of data in just 8 hours today so that is a huge amount of memory that we simply cannot handle.

That means we prob had about 40 manuals downloaded today only which is massive!

Back to the drawing board I guess.

Plan B - Do you want me to host the files for you. I'm responsible for several servers in Europe, one of them is a fail over site for our production system. If I put them on there, nobody would ever notice, since the only thing running on it is a skeleton Apache set up. The server(s) are hosted by Interoute out of Geneva and I'm pretty sure that bandwidth will not be an issue.

That would be great Steve, muchly appreciated!

I think even just hosting the main manuals would be ok such as the GQ and GU manuals along with the reference document and that would be fine.

Good work mate!!!

Big thanks to Steve as kindly offered above to host some of the manuals and now we can happily give all of the manuals away to anyone who signs up to the forum.

Huge relief for us so thanks again mate!!!

Steve is hosting the GU and GQ manuals so we should be ok to handle the rest I think...lol
