OK were to start the truck has seen some changes over the last 20 odd months I have had it.
First Pic is as I bought it July 2009 pretty stock except for Nissan Steel Winch Bar and a Optima yellow top triple battery setup plus lastly a Nissan Snorkel. This pic I have a UHF Radio did a contra deal and got 2 radio’s second hand a brand new aerial and the bloke installed one radio for me in the car park…

The batteries are Optima 55AH units run is parallel to increase amps hours to 110. They utilise a Red Arc solenoid. There are 2 Merritt connectors in the back of the truck and also there was a Anderson Plug on the towbar both since removed. These all use the AUX Batteries only.

First thing I did was fitted up a 3” which actually lifted the car about 90mm. The kit included springs shocks, Comp spec Drag link, Extended Brake Line, Castor Correction bushes, sway bar extensions for rear. Disconnects for the front sway bar, Brake bias bracket etc.

Mate of mine chucked it all in for me and was reasonably happy but a couple of things were not quite right tho, the disconnects were too long so removed from truck along with the front sway bar (now sitting in the garage) gave to mate and he is happy with them. With the lift I really need ADJ Pans which have since been bought but not fitted as yet in reality could probably do without them but for thr sake of completeness will get it done.

I bought a 3” exhaust along with a McNalley combined Analogue Boost and digital Pyro gauge and proceded to fit that up with a mate of mine at Roxby Downs was reasonably straight forward except for some issues with the rusty treads on the back of the turbo housing were the dump pipe sits.

Then I went and blocked the EGR which in turn cause overboost in no load situations IE cruise control on a very slight downhill grade. So after more reading ordered a Dawes Valve from 3Barr racing and some cheapish Needle valve to the whole Dawes/needle valve mod. While I have been happy with it I cant get the spoolrate quite right and will be removing the Needle vale part and just stick with the Dawes overboost protection. I believe the Series 4 and above operate slightly different to the Series 1-3. So rather than going the whole 2 needle Valve route I will just use the dawes to protect from overboost.

I needed some a roof rack for storage etc and got a bargain of the century in a full length aluminium roof rack form an old SES Vehicle cost was $200. I chuck it on and use it for a few trips but after a while it was evident to me that because I could take a lot of stuff I was. So I sold this on and with the cash bought a smaller roof basket but I still needed a couple of bars to mount it on. I got lucky again and a mate said he had 2 bars that came of a patrol and would not fit his Defender and did I want them? I went let me have a look and these are 2 homemade bars and man are they strong I grabbed them and they have been on the truck ever since.

Latest setup for Roof Racks (This was on the Oonadatta Track last Easter)

After that it was time for some Drawes and a cargo barrier which I bought from a place in Adelaide for $1800 installed so for that I got the Drawes, Cargo barrier and a fridge slide for the 60Ltr Waeco fridge my dear old Dad gave me the previous Xmas. The vehicle was starting to come together after a couple of trips about the place I was starting to think some new tyres would be a good idea.

The drawes etc

So after a fair bit of thinking, reading and god knows what else I opted for 6 Kuhmo KL71 285/75/16 Mudders with six brand new Dynamic 16*8 -12 Offset rims. To replace the Nissan 17” Alloys with Cooper ST’s also had 6 of these which I still have sitting around in the Garage. So far have piled on over 22K on the Kuhmo’s and I am very impressed with them from the road manners to their off-road ability. Anyone looking for some Muddies should put these into the equation both from a Performance view but are also pretty reasonably priced.

You may remember I said I removed the Towbar I did this because I finely found a Kaymar Rear Bar for sale to fit a Series 4 Patrol so $2k later and a drive of 7000 plus km I now have a Dual Rear wheel carrier. Was pretty crazy to drive all the way to Gladstone QLD to pick up the bar but my Dad lives there and I hadn’t seen him in a while so I went stuff it took a week’s holiday and did some serious miles on the highway.

The reason I did so many KM’s was a mate called from Melbourne when I was in QLD and said he was given a Warn XD9000 winch used twice in vain and did I want it? I told him I will be there in 2 days to pick it up, bought him a bottle of his Favourite alcohol and helped him drink it. Got the winch didn’t have a control box/solenoid but have since found both for free again my luck is holding out on me here.

Still haven’t fitted the winch but will be soon then I will be saving up for a front Autolocker and some sort of water storage for a Big Dessert trip later in the year.

Soz to babble on abit here but as most trucks tend to be I think they are if nothing else a labour of love....

Cheers

Top write up mate!!! Love the "whities". Should be a few on here that may be able to assist with the overboost problem etc also.

Now ... what are we going to do about that rubber?? time for some muddies!!! LOL!!!
