I've had ARB air lockers and probably would again, but TJM have a sale on ATM.

I'm curious to know what others know or think of the TJM Prolockers. I don't know much about them, but I reckon they'd be just as good ARBs lockers.

Thoughts.

We talked about this the other night and I have a memory like a battered fish but there's some pros with Tjm?

It's that old thing I guess, 50% like one and 50% like the other. I had trouble with my 2 ARB lockers but after I went through and fixed up rubbers etc, they were great, I reckon the TJM would be the same. I'll keep looking into it.

Thanks guys.

Very keen to please learn more here of your specific brand experiences blokes. I ran ARB's 15+ odd years ago thrashing without any dramas and now finally back in the HC climbing game have chosen ARB again. Last weekend we found my somewhat installed downwards compressor/tank plumbing was intermittently moisture/freezing the ARB solenoids and seriously 'wacking' until a final air stop of the 'bolt' I guess :-( ?

I know it's supposed to be a 'Prolocker' query thread but just thought I'd put this here as my findings today would affect all air activated lockers I believe.
After last weekends debacle removed the rear cab seat for a closer inspection on matfew 's upside down trackside correct diagnosis. http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2017/06/104.jpg The ARB solenoids were below the pressure manifold. http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2017/06/105.jpg Matfew whilst inspecting again on day 2 kindly ripped out the diffuser's which got some action back again. http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2017/06/106.jpg The manifold needs a full 180 rotation to have its drain bung lower than the solenoids and better maintenance by silly old me. http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2017/06/107.jpg http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2017/06/108.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2017/06/109.jpg Long story short, ripping the whole lot out now and remounting correctly up higher where it can be friggin accessed and adding an easy maintenance water trap bowl etc...

So I heard from TJM to day. Although they advertise their Locker at around $1400, once you add in labour, wiring, compressor etc it comes to $2500.

I already knew the locker was just one component of a 'locker system', just ashame it adds up to almost twice what they advertise.

Wow! That’s more than it costs to get an elocker fitted!

Yeah, crazy price I reckon.

I rang up an ARB place. The bloke quoted around $1550 fitted which didn't include a compressor and about $2100 with a compressor. $600 for a compressor seems a bit much, I only need something to run the front locker as I have a factory rear locker.

I know I can get the small ARB locker I think it's the CKSA12 or something which should cost less than $600 as it's only a small thing.

Anyone know what else I can do for a compressor for an ARB air locker???

They must have priced you for the dual compressor. That's very expensive.

Any of the ARB compressors will do the job. Bear in mind also that the ARB Compressor will include a full loom for the air lockers as part of the price. Plug and play. You will also get the switch for at least the compressor and maybe 1 locker too.

I understand the TJM pro locker made a change to the 'o' ring and the mechanism used to engage the locker. This is the weak link in an ARB Airlocker. You might see it written occasionally guys selling lockers and saying "Old Style Airlocker" ARB changed the design slightly about 15 years ago and most of the comp guys reckon the old design was stronger.

At the end of the day for the average Tourer and weekend car either will get the same job done. Ford v Holden.

Seriously consider the e-locker.

Note that when talking about the compressor the equation then consider also that it will be your tyre inflator too. If you don't need it to pump up tyres then the ARB Airlocker mini compressor and loom is the winner. ARB won't fit an Airlocker and wire it up without fitting their compressor I don't think and they like using their pre made loom.

The greatest weakness to the Airlocker, ARB or TJM is Crash engaging. Ie. Pressing the button with the power on.

Power off, engage. Power on. Never dump the button at full noise, they don't like it. Comp blokes don't like backing off.....

A little mechanical sympathy goes a long way.

Now you tell me..lol

I used it only in situations where I was stuck and just flicked the switch.. ohh well
I suppose you learn by your mistakes[emoji3]

For sure Daz & great advice on both posts above thanks mate! The solenoid intermittent blockages experienced were doing exactly/badly that. We would switch on at the base of a hill off load and finally feel/loudly hear them drop in under load/turn half way up. Eventually they got so blocked that all air stopped when next actuated.

You know that could have been your high pressure freespool issue too mate! Water in the lines.

No doubt mate! PeeBee Phil has kindly spoken to his mates about Festo air seperating gear and coming up with some simple advice to install. Whole system needs fixing as the main storage tank line was split too found.

I found out that the approx $600 for the compressor is the price of the compressor + the price to fit it + the tyre inflation kit, none of which I need. I can get the small locker only compressor + fitting for about $350.

ARB list all their prices + fitting prices on the web which is great for a few reasons. I wish TJM did coz I can't believe it will cost $2500 for their locker installed.

FWIW 10g mate. ARB do sometimes have specials too. I paid around $950 for each locker but severely blew out my budget on the twin compressor for rear 'Firestone On-Air' bags, air freespool and fast as hell tyre inflation with 20L storage tank for potential tyre bead blasts if needed.

At Harrops workshop at their headquarters in Preston. Was worth the drive there. Service was excellent. Wasn't prepared to risk a ham fisted mechanic at a local 4wd shop. If anyone knows how to fit one properly it's the folk who make & sell it. Friend had one fitted locally & has a 'diff whine'. Mine sounds no different to before it was fitted.
