Should bolt straight up ,,get the tape measure out
and measure the mounting holes

Apples, my nephew has just tried to fit a warn 9000lb low mount to an arb winch bar and found the motor is too long to allow alignment with the holes in the bar. I would have put money on it fitting but it didn't without Ne holes being drilled, was approx 15mm off centre or long on one side. Mention it just in case you start into the swap and it appears to go tits up.

you may have to move the gear box 90 degrees a s well,
Like I said get the tape out and see where the holes are
and if it will physyically fit, I had to space my 9.5Xp Warn
up about 30mm from memory

Tried the gearbox rotation and turning the winch over 180 degrees - simply would not align. Anyway redrilled the holes and wired it up - smoke tested the motor, so appears the motor is full of mud, won't be going on the vehicle for use this weekend.

Bummer might want to put and air pressure line to it using those ole air horn pumps and a needle valve
Then just before you hit the water or mud you press the button and pressurize the winch , dont needmuch air but it works a treat
even works on Petrol powered dizzies

A common but very irritating problem with the Warns.

Usually caused by whoever fits the winch not following the correct procedure and rotating the motor so the drain is at 6 o'clock if the winch isn't mounted 'horizontal' with reference to the mounting feet.
Warns come from the factory( at least all the ones I have seen) with the winch set up to bolt up onto the top of a horizontal plate.
Most aussie optioned winch bars are set up for a vertical attachment which moves the drain from 6 o'clock to 3 o'clock so the motor will half fill with dust/water/mud

Ah Ha, thats what causes it. I will pay attention to this when he drops it around for me to dry out and get it going. He is a total boghole crazy young guy so it will be full of water and mud for sure.

Yeah we had a warn fitted to a work car and they forgot to rotate so the drain hole was at the bottom. The motor was stuffed after months, the only water it saw was driving in the rain., crazy! ! Lucky they did a warranty for us don't think they were happy with the apprentice. . .

Is the drain easily identified?, and which end of motor is it fitted to the drum end or end cap?

Yeah pretty easy, just a little notch fairly sure it's on the drum end. Probably best just to silicone the bejesus out of it and do periodic checks / maintenance. .

Will be fine with rope just gotta watch winding out under power on a low mount is where they get hot.
