Hi everyone,
I am looking to install a turbo on the old Mav and looking at something like this http://hpdiesel.com.au/gq-patrol/nissan-patrol-gq-td42-intercooled-turbo-kit-suits-winch
What I need some help with is what is it like to put in yourself. I will have a crack at just about everything but is there any issues I would be facing before I start?
Any ideas would be appreciated.
cheers

Thats an expensive kit. Surely all this could be sourced separately and cheaper. Just might take a bit more effort though. Rather than just buying the kit. The DTS manifold is around $600, sub 2k for a turbo...

Hey mate,
I thought about it but with the piping and intercooler and hoses etc, I really don't know what I would need and length of hoses etc. With the very big chance of getting the wrong stuff and going back and forth I would rather get it in one go. Smarter people than me put the kit together to fit. lol.

If you can have the car off the road, then you just do it in steps. Buy the manifold, turbo and all oil and water bits, put that all on and then work out the next step. Yeah it takes longer but it will work out cheaper for sure. Bu if you need your car, that may prove hard to do.
Their claim of 100rwkw with that kit is not a lot for the coin I reckon. Plus it would all depend on injector pump limitations too. 100rwkw is probably the most out of a 10mm pump, thats in good order too maybe. Not sure. Hopefully NissanNewbie see's this thread. He has a way better knowledge than anyone I know of for this stuff.

Yeah, daily driver. 100kw isn't that much but a lot different to 65kw. changing the pump ups the $$$ more. I did see a 11mm this morning for $1k. I have looked at the DTS as well but I don't want the air cleaner on top. I will be changing that out most likely with the ZD30 style airbox from Patrol docta.

Yeah 65 to 100 is a pretty big jump I suppose... Ask around but AB and Winnie had the Patrol Docta air boxes and didn't think much of them. they have both changed to Fatz Fab air boxes. Which use a pod style filter in a box.

Just had a look at the Fatz. Probably adding another $500 to the ever increasing cost. I will have to leave enough for the divorce settlement if she reads this.

I would probably just buy a ZD air box and modify the lid. If you buy the same box but from a TD the lid outlet is different and will suit better. Only from what I had read here and elsewhere, for the coin of the Patrol Docta box there bugger all gain. Unless you find a second hand one... If you were chasing bigger ponies then yeah the extra air box is worth it. But it all helps in the end.

Is there anyone on here know anyone doing deals on kits?

Not sure if GCG turbo's do a kit as such. Maybe worth looking on their site?

That Kit you linked is a DTS Garrett Kit with one of HPDs cooler kits. The last DTS kit I sourced for someone came in just under $3200. This included a full 2.5" exhaust system, boost and pyro gauges. The DTS kits come with reasonable instructions and can easily be done in a weekend. If you insert the drain in the fashion they say to you will need a nice spike and a thread tap.

I would price a DTS kit then add a cooler to it. You can do a cooler kit with a core and universal pipe kit off ebay for less than 500. Lot of ways to save money.

Must be different turbo, 3" dump pipe not 2.5". But no exhaust included. No gauges but that doesn't worry me too much I would like to go the redarc with boost and pyro together.

I would be keen on seeing the install instructions if anyone has a set.

Can get a 3" instead of 2.5. The end user wanted a 2.5 so that's what I got him. I always advise 3" but cant tell people how to spend their money.

Pretty keen on getting a price but without gauges if you still do that sort of thing.
