Hey guys,
Recently got a three inch exhaust system put on my 2000 GU II ZD30Di and when the engine revs get between 1300-2100 rpm i get a very faint very light whining noise. No difference in power of fuel economy. Any ideas
i thought that maybe the bigger exhaust was causing some weird noises thats all but when i hear it it freaks me out and i panic..

Cheers

Just have a good look over all the joins, check for soot and also check bolt tension, you may just have a small leak.

You could be just hearing the Turbo differently, due to the different CAT and mufflers.

Does it only make the noise when moving, or does it also do it when stationary?

It seems to be linked with boost as soon at I start getting around the 5-10 psi boost mark it happens
Just don't want a stuffed tranny
It has a 3 inch turbo back exhaust no cat no muffler

I recon happygu might be on the money. If there are no performance issues just a slight noise I would just monitor it. No good getting into a fret unless it gets worse. I used to help out on a racing HQ and we always went by the mantra that it would get better, worse, or stay the same. We were always right.

I suppose your right but it's always nice to actually know what is wrong so I can monitor it to see if it's getting worse or better.

Hi Jack, if this noise has only started since the exhaust upgrade, then it's an exhaust sound.
The turbo will only begin working properly whilst in gear and at about 5psi you'll start to get nice noises!
I agree that the noise your hearing is probably the turbo spooling.
Your new 3" exhaust is acting like a bell.
Just my thoughts, but as said, just keep an ear open.

Yeah well I'll keep an ear out for it.

I agree with Daveyboyjunior. After fitting a three inch system on my 2.8 she started to whistle and it sounds great.

Like I said before it's not a whistle so much as a whining noise.
I'm with you jman69 cruising along and you can just hear a whistle from the turbo spool. Tunnels are now even more fun :smiley_thumbs_up:

Just drove home from work and really focused on the sound and when it seems to occur and what i found is that it is in fact as you guys said something to do with the exhaust and possibly an exhaust note that is being distorted but ill be checking all my exhaust bolts and nuts in the morning to eliminate an exhaust leak of sorts.
