ZD30 Questions

Hi guys coming on about 8 months since I bought my patrol built September 2000 it's a GU series 2 rocking the Zd30. When I bought it was a dead stock unit with only a 2 inch lift and vdo boost gauge in it and 284,430kms on the clock.
Now 8 months and a lot of kays later it's time to get answers to all the questions I have.

Currently the truck has 295350 kms on it and I have fitted a pyro gauge and a 3 inch straight through exhaust and an egr block.

I have every intention of fitting the following items
HPD/CC intercooler
HPD catch can
Stainless snorkel
Federal couragia muddies 33"

And in the future would like to fit a bigger lift.
Now I have heard and read a lot about the glow plug timer mod but haven't really got the point of it all. I know it's a dumb question but could someone please shine a bit of light on the topic and does anyone know anyone who would be willing to help me fit the glow plug timer and on that note help me with going over my car with me all time will be paid work.

I know I'm going to extremes paying someone to help me reduce the possibility of a grenade but it's worth it to me as the truck holds a special place in my heart

I didn't bother with the timer i just went to Jaycar and got a push button and cut the green wire with the black stripe out of the ECM behind the center console... Plugs only glow when i push the button... I only use it for the first start of the day. I press it for 5 seconds and thats it..

Will they only glow when the key are in the ignition.
Do you have a picture of how it's set up.
Are you running ceramic or metal glow plugs?

I swapped my badly worn ceramics for metal tipped glows. No problems.
I haven't done this timer mod yet though.

What brand plugs did you use? Did they cost an arm and a leg?

They had them on a deal at my local factors (UK)
NGK brand.
Ceramic on the left, with new metal tipped.

50mm is the limit in most states and 33" are the biggest or 305mm.
Have you checked the intercooler to see if its oily if it is its leaking
and doing you know favours, Diesel smart do a great tiggeg and tested IC.
With these ZD30s you really need gauges so you can see what going on
under the bonnet, boost, EGT gauges of your choice.
