Hi, my partner took his gq patrol out last weekend, got stuck in a bog hole for a couple of hours. He cooked the ecu, which I was able to find another to replace but the part number was different, got him out of trouble but it's like the car is still running in limp mode. Could the code duffence be the issue? We were told that it came out of a gq the same year/model as his. We were thinking that maybe it is the tranny computer? is it worth replacing it to see? If so the only one we can find has the same part number(assuming that's the first series of numbers on the label) but the numbers below are different. Would that work?
Any other suggestions as to what may be causing this issue?
He has done a full service on the car since getting it bogged, except for tranny fluid change.
He has a 94 gq petrol efi patrol tb42 lwb

Thanks for any help!

The ecu is on the passenger side behind the kick panel , could be a dodgy ecu or has he checked the tranny oil for colour and smell .
If it's not a light sort of a red colour you may have cooked it , also get him to check the smell , ie does it smell burnt .
I have a 94 diesel 4.2 with an auto and the best mod is a transmission oil temp gauge , vital to know what temp the oil is because if it gets too high you will cook the oil or worse the tranny .

Yeh I've got the same light on my 92EFI GQ, just can't ever recall GQ's going into a "limp mode" like GU's

What are the symptoms Ally91????

Also what is the ECU's part number you where supplied???

I'm assuming there is limp mode, the car wouldn't start once out of the bog hole. When he put the new ecu in it started but it's like he's only has 2 gears left... second and 4th I think he said. The new ecu had a different part number than the old one so we're not sure if that may be the issue

The new ecu is 23710 35j00
The old one is 23710 35j10

We can get a new tranny Comp for $150, is the part number in the same spot as them? If it is, It has the same part no. But the numbers at the bottom of the sticker are different. I'm hoping that's a bath hi number or something?!

Is this and Automatic Transmission?

Sounds more like a faulty TCU ( Transmission Control Unit ) or gearbox than a limp mode. If its Auto and you drowned the ECU then the TCU would also of drowned

Yeh we tried drying it out... it wasn't quiet as bad as the ecu, that was FULL of mud, the tcu was mainly just water

I believe

The new ecu is 23710 35j00 is for a GQ with manual transmission

The old one 23710 35j10 is for a GQ with auto transmission

Also just found this in a search which confirms what I thought: http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/nissan-patrol-gq-y60-ford-maverick-11/difference-auto-manual-computer-19551/

Looking at Nissan Fast

Part# 23710-35J11 and Part# 23710-35J12 are compatible but no mention of Part# 23710-35J00

also the other way around Part# 23710-35J00 does not list the 23710-35J10 as being compatable
