Lucky bugger having a dual tank on a Q , fuel should not leak at all unless overfilled out the filler neck , should be a switch to pump from sub to main tank but sounds like it might be a back yard conversion that hasn't been finished right .
Check your dash and see if you have an extra switch that looks new or been added .

Ok so your two tanks are joined at the bottom , sorry thought it might have been out of a GU .

You might have a leak in a hose or where the sender unit bolts into the top. Often the hose get old and perish

Winnie AB can you guys sort this out. Winnie and AB have both retro fitted sub tanks to the GQ and work well. There will be a pump to pump from the sub to the main tank. Is it petrol or diesel? some of the Petrols had a second pump in the sub and do not transfer but rather suck from one or the other. There should definitely be a switch to either swap the tanks or pump the tanks

Hey mate the common set up for these is a pump to transfer from your auxiliary to main tank but you said you can't see a switch.

People can doctor up all kinds of transfer systems so your best bet would be to jump under your car this weekend, take some photos of where the fuel lines go from your auxiliary tank and post it on here for others to check it out.

Yeah mate if there is no switch jump underneath and follow the pipes. Just see where they go and sit down and try to work out what is supposed to happen. In mine and AB's systems we installed a little pump in between the two tanks to transfer out of the belly tank into the rear tank

Have a good look where it's spilling from, they often use grey or blue suction hose which can get hard when it's old so doesn't clamp down well on the tank or filler. Same as AB & winnie, have a transfer pump on mine, work's a treat.
