Wondering if anyone can advise on the logistics/cost of transplanting a 2014 ZD30 wagon engine into a 2004 ZD30 wagon. I'm guessing there might be wiring differences etc. This is the wife's car and it has been costing $$ chasing low power problems, new injector pump fixed it for a while but scan now showing advance problem in pump so need to decide wether to keep throwing money at it or replace motor. We can get a 2014 ZD30 motor with 106,000km on it complete with gearbox for $4,000 which sounds good but am concerned it might cost more than that to fit !

compared to $6000 for an IP thats sounds like a good price.
you would need a different ECU to suit the Di
What area are you in???

Atherton Tablelands area 3dogs. The IP was an o/h exchange, $4,500 from memory, from some crowd in Brisbane organised by workshop in Mareeba. He suspects there is a problem with pump and agreed it was 50/50 chance of them replacing/repairing under warranty. It seems latest code indicates timing advance not working properly as is at 9% at idle I think which apparently indicates piston in pump is worn and they will most likely say there has been dirty fuel going through it, which has not been the case, so not their problem.
The trouble is it hasn't been consistent, put a new intercooler on a month ago, old one was stuffed anyway, and the first run after that it was brilliant but went to crap again.

Local auto electrician suggested would need a whole new wiring loom and, as you said, new ECU so am concerned about what all the extra costs will add up to given the wagon is 13yo and pushing 500,000km.

You could give Killa Kustom Kables a buzz and see if they have a plug and play loom available
If all up you can fit that 2014 motor for $10K I think thats a great price plus will be a 5 speed.
sell your Auto and motor so thats $10k minus $0000 equals ?????. depends on funds available too

Thanks 3 dogs, I'll make some enquiries re the loom.
I have been wondering after reading the Nissan Patrol Reference Document I downloaded from the forum if it might pay to clean any accumulated crap out of induction system and even perhaps get it dyno tuned to rule out any possible contributing factors that might be confusing the ECU which in turn is affecting fuel control, what are your thoughts?

Forgot to mention that, apart from 3" exhaust, the car is stock standard.

Low ICV percentage can be caused by air being sucked in with the fuel or partly blocked fuel filter.

Fitting an electric lift pump might help prolong the life of the Injector pump and show up any fuel leaks.

Unfortunately going di to crd you'll need ecu, loom engine, IC, intake and pipe work.
The boxes are all the same.
But as Yendor has mentioned pump issues can be as small as the oring on the fuel filter being old or even the wrong one.
They should be a square lip seal, not round, and should be replaced with every now filter. .

The primer bulbs can also perish and allow a small air leak.

Also with Yendor a lift pump can prolong a pumps life, but if you do have leaks itll show them as you'll have positive pressure behind it all not negative suckling from the pump.

Thanks Yendor & Westy, sounds like it might pay to explore those avenues before throwing too much $ at it.
