Would anyone be able to shine some light on this for me.
Just picked up my 99 4.2td patrol and the guy i bought it off, owned it since new. When he handed me the keys, he told me that these were the only two keys he had. They are basically standard metal keys, no plastics or FOB style key.
They both work on all doors etc, but many moons ago i owned a 98 2.8td which had remote central locking, surely the 99s got it as well?

Now it does have central locking, which means if i unlock the drivers door, they all unlock and i can un/lock all doors from a switch in the cabin, but did these come from factory with remote locking?

Guess it might depend on the model.....

Check up under the dash above the glovebox for a white control box. I think from memory it had a grey plug on it. If thats there then it has the capability for remote central locking from factory.

Mine had the box which i found out after I got it home and stripped the interior for a clean. No remote though when i bought it. I didnt ask about it nor did the guy I buy it from mention it used to have one or not.
I ended up putting an aftermarket alarm on anyway which I wired into that white box basically

Install an aftermarket one. They are pretty cheap these days on ebay.

Ok I had no time last week but finally managed to get 10 minutes to rip the glove box out. Had a good look under there and I can't see anything that resembles a box with a grey plug.
Looks like I'll be fitting some after market kit. It's probably been asked before but since I've got the thread open and your attention, any recommendations on brand?
After immobiliser and remote locking.
Thanks

I installed this one from Jaycar.

In the middle of the console just above where the cig lighter is there should be a little green box relay thingo. That box is like a distribution box for the central locking. You can tap into that for the door unlock/lock action if you like.
