Haven't been on here for a while as my house burnt down in the Yarloop Bushfire about a year ago. With the house went my spare key for my 2010 GU. The key I have left has lost the small screw that holds the key shaft into the main body of the key. The shaft can therefore fall out and losing it will cause a bit of a problem. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a replacement screw. Nissan will only supply a new key for $350. Have tried bolt suppliers and even Mister Minute who will also only supply the key for about $300. Maybe a jeweller? Any assistance would be appreciated

Try optometrist or proper locksmith. Locksmith maybe able to cut a key-only blank as well.
High price includes programming the fob to the car.

Yeah I wouldn't bother with MM. They are hopeless. They once tried, 4 times, to cut me a key from a very worn out sample. They insisted that this didn't matter. Right... The fifth key I got from a real locksmith who cut a new key to the lock code. So yeah I would try a lock smith too. I haven't seen how small the screw is, my Ol' GUII has the remote separate from the key. Maybe try a computer store? I have tons of tiny screw that are for PC's and laptops. Even try a model shop.
Since you only have one key it might be an idea to get a new key cut anyway as a spare.

I also vote for a proper locksmith. They'll have the screw you need and will know what they're doing.

Thanks for the suggestions of locksmith or optometrist - so obvious but hadn't crossed my mind. Will try those and let you know what happens.

Found an old pair of specs in the drawer and would you believe, one of the little bolts screwed straight into the key. It's a bit short but holds the shaft in place. Just packed it with a bit of metal filler and good to go. Will probably need to buy a new key as a back up but this will keep me moving., Thanks guys for all the suggestions. Worked out well.

I had two new keys made up for my Patrol last year at a real lock smith. Cost $120 for the two. He reprogrammed one key and cut the chip out of the old key which was worn and put it in the second new key. Also cut the keys from code so that they fit perfectly in the locks. Well worth it.

Yep i had a worn ignition in the commo. Ignition started to jam so had to sort it. Went to locksmith who charged a couple of hunge to change out all the barrel pins and springs and replace with new, plus re-grease and cut a new key blade. Sooo much better than heading to the idiot key cutter at the mall and spending same. Gotta fix both ends of the problem, now running like a swiss oiled clock!

Looks like I'll be paying the Locksmith a visit. Thanks again for the advice.
