I have a Nissan 2001 4.2lt Diesel that is not performing properly. It is jerking through the lower gears unless you give it a foot full of throttle. It is fitted with an Intercooler and has just had a new radiator. I have changed the fuel filter and found a small amount of dirt in the old one. Could it be a problem with the injectors. The nissan has done 283000 kms. Can anyone tell me what might be the problem.

Fuel pump? Injectors? Injector pump? Those are the things I can think of that need checking.

Have you had it long? Has it run without the 'jerking' previously since you've owned it? Is it more like a 'noise' or is it actually 'kangaroo hopping'? I'm just wondering if what you call 'jerking' is the transmission growl/shudder that they all do, but which worries most folk when they first get the car?
