Our 2002 model lost power after I cleaned the MAF sensor , turns out there are some things CRC is not good for .
A dirty sensor will give trouble , or if the screw holding wires to sensor has come loose it may give trouble .

Low fuel pressure? Fuel filter? Bad diesel? Anything changed recently? Do you run ECUTalk or other diagnostics?

Leaking intercooler? Dud MAF, but an ECU scanner should pick up on that. How done a workshop do a dyno run on a car with no power and say it came up good?

How did they pick up it was lean? Exhaust gas readings?

Error codes only come up if it recognises a fault. MAF could be giving wrong value but not picked up as a fault. You need to get some ECU readings with a scanner.

remove the engine cover and see how oily the IC is.
My 04 was leaking at 185k , if yours is oily it will need
to be replaced with a fully tigged and tested one about $350-$500
If you haven't fitted a boost or EGT gauge yet Id be putting
that high on my to do list.
Its the only way you can "SEE" whats going on under the bonnet
Do one thing at a time that way you'll know what the fault was
