HI,
On the 1997 4.2EFI. What is the warning light just above the fuel gauge for. Under heavy acceleration it comes on for a few seconds and goes out.
Also I have got this old tank doing 18l per 100kms.

Dirty air filter, try replacing the air filter, if it still comes on after that maybe dirt on the sensor

You'll might find most come on under hard acceleration though

thanks for that. I just checked the air cleaner and its looking a bit dirty. Time for a new one. I was thinking it had something to do with the injectors the pick looks a little like a spray.....

Thanks

Yeh my one comes on under heavy acceleration too.. I think my one comes on because one of the air hose peices before the air box is broken

there are 2 hoses off the sensor one is outside side air pressure flow, the other one is after the aircleaner. the ecu, etc, measures the differance and tells us when there is insufficent air flow after the air filter. It wont matter if the outside hose is not connected to anything.

I have this same light come on with check engine light aswell. I was driving and the engine shut down. No power to fuel pump now. Anyone know had this happen? N what the problem is now? It's been running like crap n chewing fuel. My guess is fuel pump has finally shit itself. ??

Might just be the MAF sensor
