Personally wasn't there at the first landing but are very happy for all of us that our fathers/fathers protected us together as brothers in arms through much later potential horrific invasions.

I wish everyone well for tomorrow, & appreciate that celebrating national pride is something worth doing. and I still feel as a Welshman (being the original Britons) that we are persecuted, firstly by the Romans almost 2000 years ago, then the Anglo-Saxons 500 years later, the Normans 500 years later, then in 2007 when Tony Blair quashed the Welsh appeal to have 1st March as a Welsh bank holiday, we fought for the English in several wars....... when will our anguish ever end???????

I wish we could be as one ------- rather than just saying we are .... except for the few.

It’s about respect & inclusiveness for all Australians. By insisting that we continue to celebrate our great nation on a date only adopted nationally 23 years ago (http://www.australiaday.org.au/australia-day/history/), not the anniversary of coming together as a country, but that of the comencement of hostilities & untold horror for those who’s country was colonised fails to encompass those vaues of respect & inclusiveness.

“Get over it ” only serves to perpetuate the ‘blindness’ to the lived experience of the majority of today’s indigenous Australians. It says “We will continue to oppress you unless you join us by renouncing your past”. How would you feel if there was a decision to no longer commemorate Anzac Day & just told folk to ‘get over it’. The thought is abhorrent, & yet this is what the “get over it” attitude expects of indigenous Australians.

This article (https://theconversation.com/the-day-i-dont-feel-australian-that-would-be-australia-day-36352) is worth a read. I expect that there are some who will maintain their ‘denial’ & stubbornly refuse to consider changing their views without considering the implications. They will be the folk who wont even bother to read it. Some will read it only on the basis of trying to find reasons to dismiss it. It is however an article which gives access to how it is that the day we love to promote as representing the inclusiveness of our society serves to exclude those who’s generations have been connected to this country for the longest ..... by a huge margin. Bizarre! A view from the other side of the fence. I’m not about criticising folk who want to celebrate being Australian, I’m about making it truly inclusive by advocating for removing the fence. How would changing the date do any harm? It alone wouldn’t ‘patch things up’ but it would be a step in the right direction. To not take that step, in my view, denies all that we celebrate & is truly un-Australian.

Ok have said my piece, I’m not silly enough to think that saying it will have any great influence, but in the interests of fairness & balance I think it needed to be said. I won’t get into further debate but will hope that my lone voice will at least be respected as coming from a position of integrity even if it has not been sufficient to cause you to consider what I’ve said.
