Hi,

So, I have a 2009 CRD Wagon, very stock at present with 160k on the clock.
Recently I have started noticing issues with fuel usage, getting about 15-16L/100km, so I started doing all the usual, filter changes, MAF sensor clean, Fuel additives. I have suspected the intercooler for a while, so today, I had a close look at it. There was visible oil marks on it externally, so I gave it a clean, and discovered a couple of cracks.

My question is this, I know that you get what you pay for, but what exactly is the difference in a $300 ebay intercooler, a $600 ARE intercooler, and one from say Cross Country?

I am leaning towards an ARE one as they are local, but at this time of year, I may have to wait until mid January, whereas an ebay one will land next week. Is it worth the wait?

Thanks!

On my CRD 2009 same year as yours. I had a diesel smart exchange unit. So back in 2014 it was just under $500 on exchange basis ...
Their site doesn't seem to work now for some reason. The unit performed really well for me.

First up remember its ONLY a 3 ltr ,,,a Diesel Smart or any fully tigged and tested IC with about 3yrs warranty
should be fine. Money saved on a CC IC could be used on a re-map where good gains are had. A larger scoop
will help as well, plus they look great IMO lol

Bang for buck an OE or Diesel Smart IC would be the best option imo

Thanks so much for the answers, I was hoping that would be the recommendation! I will let you know if I see any improvement in fuel economy after I fit it.
I really like the bonnet scoop, I think that will be in my shopping list for early in 2017...

for when you do any Mods,
HPD do a hi flow sensor housing allowing a tad more boost.
plus a few other things for the mighty ZD30
Scoop will cost about $600
