G'day all,

Today I picked up my first Patrol. She is nothing fancy, but should be suitable for my needs - 1994 DX TD42, 371000km. Purchased from a dealer in Alice Springs for $6500.

I will post more details in the Members Ride section.

The main reason I liked this vehicle in that price range was the reliability factor, and the opportunity to learn on a relatively simple engine. Although I have some good experience driving 4WD vehicles, I am a mechanical noob.

I aim to do basic service on this truck and get a feel for it. Maybe over time I can perform more complex tasks.

Looking forward to hanging out a bit here.

Cheers,
DQ

Thanks AB.

I think I got a good deal, the used vehicle market is never that much fun to navigate. In the end the 6.5k price tag seems reasonable given the good reputation this vehicle has, even though it is on the heavy end of KMs done.

This truck is a nice, tidy piece that will allow the family to explore further than we normally go.

Welcome DQ. 6.5k sounds like a good price for a TD42, I'd be interested to see some pics to see what that sort of money can get you. I don't suppose rust is an issue in Alice?

Edit : Ah I see you beat me to it with another thread. :)

Generally speaking rust is not as much of an issue, no. This is a very dry place with no salt in the air.

I think this truck was somebody's highway plough, either between here and Darwin or Adelaide, hence the long range fuel tank. There has not been a lot of love out into it but that will change from now on.

It is on the higher end of kms and price paid but at the end of the day you drive out with a rwc which in most cases done right is a 2k saving right there.

So technically speaking buying from a private seller of our vintage GQ you paid 4.5k.

Our installer up your way clicked over a mill in his with not a lot of major work needed in its travels although he does majority coast inland remote for most of its life.

Look after it and you should get 200k more without much expense mate.

Thanks for all the kind welcomes. It will be steady as she goes gettin this truck up to speed. Needs a bit of TLC more than anything else I think.

Nothin out of the ordinary. In actual fact she's cooled off a bit with some rain today, and a bit more to come apparently.
