I have a chicken or the egg type question. I need new tyres as the coopers i have on are terrible in the wet, i am running stock 265/70 x 17 on alloys GU 2006.

Am i able to run 285/70 x 17 or do i need to lift first (2") as i can't afford both at the same time.

GU's have big wheel arches so thinking you'll get away with the 285/70

285 / 70 should fit. I had 305/70/16 on stock ride height on my 2001 GU wagon with no problems.

if your tyres are shot, then it's a no brainer........... new tyres first

Eggszaccery! Tyres wins. 285's will ship it in too on a stock GU. The front mud flaps may rub though. Most just remove them to overcome this issue. If you do remove them, don't throw them out, they are worth their weight in gold.

Talked to a bloke yesterday who had 35"s on stock suspension. Bfg KM2 tyres btw. He was running Neg 23 offset
Said it scrubbed a bit when it was starting to get towards full flex but out than that hes had no probs
