Hi all,

just got back from the nissan service place after having a service done and the air con repaired. The air con stopped working about 2 weeks ago and I just resolved to have it looked while the service was being done.

Well, this where it all gets very expensive. When I bought the car I had the long ranger fuel tank installed (147L). The dealer did this before I took delivery. But I found out today that the long ranger tank is a bit larger than the original. That makes perfect sense. But being larger it causes the hoses that the rear air con uses to rub against the tank. It took 3 years to rub through but rub through they have. Here's the painful bit. New hoses: $1915 plus fitting.

So if anyone here has a 147L long ranger tank and you have rear air con it might pay to get under your truck and have a good look. It might save some serious dollars.

Good heads up...
Id be chasing Nissan on this. Since they fitted the tank. If not. Remove the hoses and get an a/c specialist to make up new hoses.

X2 mate for sure!!! Nissan fitted the tank for you and the tech should have foreseen that the hoses were rubbing and made longer hoses or a change to the fitting. Split core flute around those hoses could have been all that was needed. If the tank was fitted pre-delivery yo a new car then they own it mate as part of the new car warranty.

All over that mate.

Thanks ... I better check mine.

I fitted the tank myself, and I think that I bent them up a little to make sure, but I cant honestly remember.

I have written a letter to the service manager asking why I have to foot this bill when it was them who fitted the tank. I wont hold my breath though. The Nissan place here has no grasp on customer service. I will get back when I get an answer. If I get an answer. Cheers, all.

Picked my repaired GU from the dealer on Saturday. After writing a very respectful but firm letter to the service manager he stepped up and took responsibility for the mistake made when installing the LR tank. Even though that was 4 years ago. I think that is a pretty good result and 100 out of 100 for the dealer.

That would be Kittles Nissan in Alice Springs I suppose? If so, we are quick at telling everyone how bad some dealers are. We should also let everyone know about the ones that do the right thing.

Absolutely. You're correct, we are very quick to bag the problems (not to say there aren't a lot of them), but saying "well done" and then letting our community know where to get great support and service is a "win-win" for us all.
