Hi

I'm looking for some general advice. - I'm going to rebuild my Y60 with RD28T engine. It is a one owner (now two) and full history ... The previous owner even wrote down in a log every time he filled it with diesel. When and where, milage and so on. Impressive. It have never been off road, very clean engine bay and pretty low milage on the car and engine.

But but ... It is quite bad hit by rust ... Arches and even the frame seems to need some care. But everything is otherewise in excellent shape.

What would your guys recommendations be ? - I dont want a full-blood off-roader. It will drive on asphalt 95% of the time. But i'd like to raise it a little and improve the ride, because i use it to tow my boat often, and need to be able to launch it into the sea from a beach.

I need new suspension (Springs and dampers)
Need new bushings all over (Ill be sandblasting the frame and weld new arches in, so easy to replace them now)
Need new rims and tires
Controls arms, and all these "4wd-things" (i know nothing about 4wd'ing) - what should be upgraded or redesigned?

What improvements can i do to the sensitive cylinder head on a RD28T ? - Install lower temp thermostat? Open some coolant channels in the cylinder head?

What other improvements could i do to it, engine wise? I would like to swap a 3,3 into it ... But not many i arround here ...

And also ... Work shop manuals ... I'm forced to spam this forum with 25 posts in order to download a manual ? - i dont get that ...

How do i remove the chassis from the frame? (Y60, two door, short model)

A lot more questions to come, before i can download the manuels that i need :icon_bonk:

Kind regards Mads

Wow, big first post. Hello and welcome to the forum. A two inch lift (50mm), some 33" tyres is easy and doesn't require engineering (here in Vic any way). But you will lose a bit of grunt with the bigger diameter tyres.

The consensus by a lot of knowledgeable members of the forum is that original type black rubber bushes last longer.

The body is mounted to the chassis by a series of rubber mounts secured by bolts. The workshop manual shows where to lift the body from.

I personally prefer steel rims to alloy as they tend to bend rather than crack on heavy impact. ROH do a trak 2 sunraysia but you need to get ones with the right offset.

As for dealing with the engine, the search function in the top right hand corner may lead you to some answers. Hopefully one of the diesel gurus see your thread and can advise you on what to do.

A few RD28s have stripped out the key on the harmonic balancer, cracked off the cam gear or as you already know, have over-heating problems. Apart from that they seem to be a small but reliable unit.

Thank you for your reply. Any experience with sites to place orders on springs, dampers, bushings and so on? More like ... Is there anywhere NOT to buy? Poor support, bad quality and so on?

I can see i didn't place the topic in the correct forum. Can a admin/moderator place it properly ?

I have dealt with Patrolapart (they are linked to the button for Patrol parts on top of each page) for a few items and have found them to be good. They know their stuff. To be clear, I have no affiliation with them whatsoever.

Hi!
RD28T is not bad, but a little bit softy. I own it more than 7 years.
In my country, folks swaps RD28 to the QD32 and they are happy with it.
