MY GQ Y60 is a conversion from Petro TB42. original car was 1989 model. 4-5 cranks are usually required to get it started every morning. in danger of frying my starter sometimes. New fuel filter fitted recently doesn't solve the problem. Glow plug resistance checked ok 2-3 ohms. Any ideas anyone?

Are you waiting for the glow plug light to go out before turning the key? If so try letting it glow a couple of times before starting, if you have to do that then the glow plugs are likely gone

Thanks for the reply , Yup did that. all six glow plug resistance are also low 2-3 ohms. so all good. it appears that after prolonged static condition, fuel has drained is not reaching the engine. and several cranes is required to feed the fuel. I have also cleaned the sieve at the sender unit and flushed the fuel hoses/pipes from the tank to the filter/separator.

Recently had starting issues myself, tested the glow plugs and were one ohm each so amps were twelve each or 72 total.
Thats a bit different to your reading. Can you get hold of a clip on amp meter? Amps equal heat and 3 ohms is one third of the effect in mine.
Good luck.
Sorry, should have said my problem was the starter motor not turning fast enough and needed replacement.

hi all, thanks for the responses. I got the fuel pump serviced and the problem is solved. Apparently there is air sucked into the fuel pump.
