Long term project.....

I do know that the auto transmitions are the same. But need to change the torque converter to a Diesel one.

I do think the bell housing has to be changed as well.

With the 4.2 diesel engine. Is the crankshaft the same for a auto box as the manual box.

Are the from coil springs the same.Petrol to diesel. As I have a 2" lift.

I will be changing the diffs to a 4.11. At the moment I have the 3.9 ratio.

Then the wiring to do and speedo cluster etc.
I am thinking of changing the diffs very soon as some 4.2 petrols has that ratio.
The fuel consumption should improve heeps less load on the engine should mean less fuel used.

The td42 bell has a 3rd bolt next to the starter. Pretty sure that's the only difference..

The auto will be fine unless your going big power..

Springs will be fine

I'd personally just calculate the speedo difference and take note.
Saves changing gears etc..

Have you though about simply turbocharging the tb42?
Being Efi your on easy street..
New programable ecu, td turbo manifold and get a dump made to suit a off the shelf turbo exhaust.

I'm using my TB45E torque converter with my TD42T and it works well. Also retained my 3.9 diffs and it turns at 1850 rpm at 100 kph. Keeps the engine noise down..

You can't use the TB42 flex plate on the TD42.

all the good info is great.
I can change the crown well and pinions at no real cost just postage.
I was thinking that the 3.9 ratio would have the diesel working overtime and sluggish at take off.
I dont want to turbo the 4.2 efi. then it would use far to much fuel.
I'm not after HP just cut the fuel bill down.
going to the 4.11 dif should give better fuel consumption.

Turboing the tb will only increase fuel when you boot it lol..
When cruzing you'll probably use less as you'll have more power..
More power means easier cruzing thus less fuel..
