Just a quick question, after a mate followed me back from wood cutting today he said how much narrower the back wheels track to the front. It's and 06 td42 leaf tray. Standard wheels at the moment. The front was 1885 and the back was 1785 so that's 100mm narrower, this was done with a straight edge across the wheels for accurate measurements. Could someone enlighten me if this is right or should the back and front track the same cheers

Factory wheel track should be 1605 front and 1625 rear on a Y61.
The Y60 was 1530 and 1535 ex factory

Those numbers will change depending on rim offset and options IE wide wheel packs etc... but... your rear should be a tad wider track than the front

Did you measure from centre tread to centre tread or edge to edge?
Reason I ask is 1885 is a humungous track width so I would check the measurements.

Next I would check the rim offsets but again the 100mm difference front to back is a lot and would need say -26 on the front and +11 on the back at least.

Is there any chance the diffs have been changed?

It's a leafy ute. Disregarding the actual figures posted, I understand that there has always been a wheel track difference on them

Its a leaf rear, there is a 100mm or there abouts difference.

You have no need to worry about it being damaged or modded, that's how the Boffins from Nissan dispatched them.

It can be a bit of a pain when in ruts, the back move about a bit trying to follow the fronts. We have recently done a few K's on roads that were wet with shallow tyre tracks left in the now dry mud, the back had a mind of its own at times!

Fair enuf... my bad as mine is a Coily.
The leafys must have a narrower rear diff housing than the coilys and wagons or is it only if they have the bigger diff?.
I knew the ST Coilys and the DX Leafy with a wide wheel pack were 100mm wider overall due to bodywork than a std DX Leafy but never knew the rear diffs were narrower.

It can be a bit of a pain when in ruts, the back move about a bit trying to follow the fronts. We have recently done a few K's on roads that were wet with shallow tyre tracks left in the now dry mud, the back had a mind of its own at times!

It sure will... narrower rear track is used in racing setups because it generates power oversteer

Yeah good. That's heaps of info thanks guys. The offset from front to back rims are the same and the measurements were in the outside. So I guess I will have to deal with it. The only other thing is wheel spacers but they are illegal correct me if I'm wrong

They say off road use only, would hate to think what a 50mm spacer would do to the loading on the wheel studs.

I'll suffer with what I have got.

The 70 series cruisers are still sold with a narrower rear diff by the same amount, for the small sum of $8000 a company sells a modded diff that is engineered and replace the OEM... on a brand new vehicle!

Oh yeah great 8 grand. I wasn't meaning 50 mm spacers bugger that, I was thinking a bit smaller but if they are for off road use only I'll just put up with it. Besides looks good to me while I'm driving it
