Hey Guys,

I'm looking for a timer circuit that cuts of the power after 10 seconds or so.
Whether it's a finished product or a hobby electronic type build circuit are both good for me.
I can build it from parts from Jcar, or ebay.
But, I prefer a finished unit so i can save some time.

Basically the delay circuit I'm after should turn the power on for ten seconds when the ignition
is turned on, then cut the power until I reset(turn off the ignition and turn on again).
So, obviously I'm looking for a 12V timer unit that controls 12V power with a timer.

I'm wondering whether the below circuit would do that.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/121209831266?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649

or any other suggestions, links, etc will be appreciated.

thanx

Probably be fine but at $4 if it isn't then no biggee...

Sounds like your after a flip flop cct

More expensive option http://www.jaycar.com.au/timer-progr-interval-module-12v/p/AA0378 any good?

You could use a cheap turbo timer.

What is a "turbo timer"? Where would I get hold of a one from?
Thanx

It is a biggee, 'cos I have wait until end of time for it to arrive from China. :D
I wonder if there's a local supplier of that unit or similar.

Do you have a simple circuit blue print that I can borrow?
Thanx

P.S. Jaycar solution is too dear for me, 'cos i will need few of them for different applications. :)

'ere ya go Cobber https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flip-flop_(electronics)

Most hobbt circuits will use a 555 timer and the flip flop switches a relay

What??!!! :1087:
You're putting me through a digital electronics course?
I've forgotten most of the circuit design stuff, and definitely digital stuff. :)
I like the idea of looking at a schematic and putting the bits and pieces together, and then get
the damn thing to work. :D
And I care very little about what happens inside the 555 timer these days. :D

This looks promising. Apparently based on 555 timer.

Back when Dick Smith sold real electronics the catalogue had a data section with schematics & all the info you needed to build the "one shot" that you want.
You will not be able to build anything for the price of your e-bay find, a piece of veroboard will cost you more. I once got some blank 555 boards from RS Components for a project, but they were way more that what you are looking at.
This kit from Altronics is pretty good, but $35 might be out of your price range and you have to build it.

Sorry mate. Re-read your post. A Turbo timer will not go down to seconds, lowest setting is usually 1 minute. ( a turbo timer is a timing device to allow a turbo to run on and cool down )

Spoil sport... I was about to tell Dom a "Turbo Timer" was a normal FactoryTimer with an aftermarket Turbo, Chip and Water to Air intercooler.

It turns out I already have one of those el cheap $4 ebay timer circuit units.
I apparently ordered a one last year from fleabay.
It's a matter of finding it now. :)

What do you want to do with such a timer? I can only think of courtesy footwell lights or something?

For a start, it's a cheaper and perhaps a more reliable alternative for the RB30 Patrol Fuel Pump Control Unit.
There're so many other things you can use it for which don't pop right now into my fogged brain.

Same circuit can be used for opposite scenarios(turns the power on after set time) when you use it with the right type relay, or you can fiddle with electronics in the original circuit.

You can also use it with warning lights/buzzers that're wired to the original engine heat/oil pressure warning lights, so they won't buzz or warn unnecessarily everytime you turn on the ignition.

I'm sure you can come up with few non automotive hobby bench applications as well.

Cheers
Dom
