What year were airbags introduced?

Hi guys,

I'm looking at GU DX coil/leaf utes, and wondering what year the driver's airbag was introduced? I know the steering wheels say SRS but it's difficult to see on most ads so I'd like to narrow down my search if possible.

My old 2001 coil cab gu td42t didnt have a drivers airbag. Apart from that I'm not much more help on the matter.

My 2001 gu2 td42 wagon has drivers only. Fyi.

FWIW also, my old 2001 DX leafy ute did not have, my new :-) 1999 coily does not have either. The Mrs old 2002 3.0L wagon did have and her new 2001 does too. Her 2002 also did have passenger side as an optional extra from new as a 'package' we were told. Sounds like ST and DX around that vintage must have something to do with it also? Score yourself a 2005 ute and happy days I would think :-)

I've got drivers side bag in my ST series 1 GU wagon very early series 1. 1997 if that helps.

2004 ST coil cab. No airbags. I believe they werent fitted to the utes until 06. Wagons obviously had them from the start.

FWIW I agree.
Don't have any real world reference but, yeah, it was probably a Series 2 (cab chassis) introduction.

Note for the OP - if by chance you need to use finance then some lenders won't finance a vehicle without Airbags or an Ancap below 4

I stand corrected. Just spoke with a mate up in Weipa, his 2005 ST does not have! He also believes it was only on a 2006 ST very last of the 4.2s.

And very likely could be 3.0Ls onwards he thinks?

DX had them in 06 as well. They were the pick up north due to the extra load capability of the leaf rear end. And also airbags were required for site compliance.
