I am a new member currently looking for a GQ patrol.
I have driven a 2.8td and a 4.2 and noticed that the oil pressure was only at about 2 on the guage. What is normal? I would have thought 4 or higher would be OK. The 2.8 had done about 250k and the 4.2 about 300K. I am leaning toward the 2.8 as I thought the 4.2 was just too rough, but maybe there was a problem with it.
Thanks for any help you may give.

The original oil pressure gauges/senders on the GQ are very unreliable. My oem gauge sits around two as well which is why many people go after market.

Most likely other reasons but what do you mean it was too rough?

Engine sound, noises or just drivability?

I was told most aftermarket gauges are designed so its normal operating point is
half gauge as in straight up. Happy to be wrong

It just felt rough and noisy and it was very sluggish and was slower than the 2.8td I drove. My understanding was that the 4.2 is quicker.
But, thanks for the reply re the oil pressure, I won't take such notice of them in the future. Pity, as oil pressure is a good indicator of engine condition.

Hi!
Yap, it's normal. On mine 2.8, when the outboard temp is around +35, the arrow points just it a little bit higher than lower mark when ideling.
