Has anyone got any feedback on the 4WD Supa store winches ? The Domin8r 12,000lb or Grande mk111 12,000lb ?

I have been looking at these winches myself and there prices seem quite good im yet to here any real world experience from anyone and would be interested too to see what people think and rate theses winches too.
I have always been a WARN winch guy on all my other 4x4s but as funds are low atm and in need of a winch will definitely be looking at these winches if all reports turn out good

I know of 2 failures..
First one was fitted and filled with water..
Never got used and when he needed it it didn't work..
He called it a fish tank..

And my brother got 3-4 uses from his before the motor stopped..

Both now running runva and no issues..

I've got a tigerz11 12000lb winch, think it's what they call the "grande" winch now.

Have had it for years, never let me down. I think it's due a rebuild now as it started making funny noises at the end of a day of winching trees off a driveway for a mate.

Yeah thanks , I did a bit of research last night & found totally mixed reviews , I've had the Patrol for nearly 12 mths & while we do a fair bit of 4WDing it's usually with our five kids in the car so I don't get to extreme or put myself in the situation were I'll need one , I don't intend on using it every weekend so can't justify the outlay for a new Warn etc , I know you only get what you pay for though . Saw a lot of positives about the Runva too thanks Kallen .

Yeah the Runva was the other winch I was thinking of, but couldn't remember the name at the time you asked me, thats probably a better choice Adam.

Another +1 for the Runva. I've got an 11xp and it works well. Has done some hard and long pulls with no issues.

Aldi winches got a good wrap as well.
With some of these "cheaper "winches it might be better if you you
pulled them apart and re-greased everything, for peace of mind,
I run a Warn XP9.5 but only used it a few times,,,,works a treat IMO
You could even put an air pressure fitting to keep the water out
during river crossings, MudRunnerTD may have done that to
one of his winches??

My brother's got the Domin8r on his 80 series and has used it a number of times and hasn't had any issues with it. I am personally overly cautious about buying anything from Supercentre - whilst there are plenty of positive reviews there are a number of negative reviews as well, and overall the customer service is useless.

I personally have a Runva 11xp (similar to a few guys on here) and am more than happy with it. Whilst it's certainly not a fast winch, for the price point and the few times a year that I may need to call on it, it certainly does the job.

If you end up buying the Runva and when you get around installing it, have a look at my build thread or feel free to send me a message - there's a few tricks to installing them, but generally very straight forward.

Forget the Supercentre winches mate. If $ is limiting, try and spend a little bit more and go for a Runva winch. Can't beat it, best value for $ in winches I reckon.

Thanks Bacho & Hodge , I've got a fair bit going on at the moment so I can't really justify $1000 on something that I don't really need - more that I want. The more I read reviews about them I can imagine trying to use it in 12 months time and its seized up from moisture etc + now I've been chasing a chirpy whistle for a week, I've pulled all the boost lines off , removed the intercooler & pipes etc and replaced every vacuum line on the thing but can't find it, tomorrow I'm pulling the front of the turbo to check it so if that's rooted there goes any spare cash for a winch 😳

I have an Aldi winch. It will pull my Patrol across concrete no worries, with the hubs locked, in fwd, in gear and with the hand brake on. But having had it apart, It has only got alloy gear teeth on the first stage and the brake system is only held in by a grub screw. I have filled both ends of the spool with a bead of silicon to keep water out. The original seals are not very good.

I am saving up for a winch that has steel gears and a better brake.

I'm hearing good reports about the Aldi winches but like anything there they only sell for a limited time then they're gone , when thry sold some camping/hunting stuff a month or so ago there was almost mass riots at our local stores 😝

Aldi winches are a bit of a hit n miss mate. One guy I know had it break something on the inside, he got it replaced and has not had any other issues.
I don't mind aldi stuff, but you want a winch to work when you need it to. I personally wouldn't get one.

The 11xp is only $650.

I got the winch second hand. It had two controllers and solenoids. It had a lot of water in the winch itself and it took a very long time to remove all of the rust.

I put a bead of silicon on the housings and some glad wrap on the spool ends. I then slowly tightened the fasteners but left a mm or two gap. I let the silicon set overnight, so when I greased it and tightened the fasteners the silicon formed a good seal. I have had it in water that has lapped over the bonnet, and the winch inners have remained dry. I also replaced the crappy control box with a proper, water tight electrical box.

I don't trust the winch in a real dangerous situation though.

Thanks Kallen I'll look into a Runva by the sounds of it , funny thing is until I started researching this I had never even heard of Runva , obviously been around awhile but I'd never heard of them. Out of all of research ive done I haven't heard anything bad about them - however all the others are hit & miss, some swear by them whereas others swear at them .

Runva is like top end of the cheap market. If that makes sense..

Little things like 18 position options for gearbox rotation, good seals and bearings, and strong gears..
As mentioned above its not the quickest, but we ain't in comps either so I prefer the slower speed.. gives you more time to think and act..

I read a while ago (a number of years I think) that one batch of aldi winches were re-branded iron-man winches.

Depends who aldi get a good deal from.

Check it out on the net and some of the other forums have discussions on them.

I ran two Aldi winches on two Prado's over ten years. Never had an issue with either one. If the Warn ever died on my Patrol I would not hesitate replacing it with an Aldi unit. I think the most important thing with the cheaper winches is to pull them apart when new, replace the grease with quality stuff, and apply a bead of sealant on all gaskets/seals.

Not sure how new the one you're talking about is, however I bought one over a year ago and you could rotate them. I did a write up on installing into a std Nissan winch bar. You'll also find a thread on installing into an alloy bar using a winch cradle if you have a search.
