At this price I think its a bargain. I can remember getting a quote for a
similar style Maggiolina roof top camper tent, The cheapest I could get
with Trade discount was just under $2K.
Im not a fan of roof top tents but this style has got me rethinking it.
They have plenty of room inside too.

I like this type too, but I also like the dryness of the other one when getting out from underneath.

At the worst, it would be costly but worth it to replace the nylon, once it tears or gets mouldy, with good quality canvas.

A cut and paste quick review from an ex-clubbie friend... Hiya Geordie if you ever spot this...

Yes I have had one since late last year and done a five week trip over to Victorian high country and back. It is small as others have said but for travelling every day and having a quick pop up and sleep, it is bloody good.

I bought mine for $800 second hand but new unused as it did not suit the guy who had bought it was fat too tall to comfortably sleep in it (over 6.6") for me it is fine 5.8".

Cons: mine was a real cheapie Craigs it is prety average quality in the tent nylon ripstop material and a few of the zippers needed to be stitched up so they don't runn off. http://www.ebay.com....id=583065950763

Although I would not recommend buying this brand it was prety good for the price I got it and has held up well to a fair bit of use.

Pros:
I have been in high winds, sand storm, almost snowed in Victoria and down to -3 one night but was warm and dry to sleep in.

Small but much bigger inside and more comfortable than a double swag or small tent.

Good air flow when it is hot as you are well up off the ground.

It is well streamlined and I hardly feel the weight or drag at highway speed.

Quick to set up and drop

Well sealed from dust and water.

Other brands from BCF and Gettaway Outdoors for $2 grand are verry simmilar to mine but seem to be better quality canvas or nylon. They are reasonably well made for China.

Better quality like Maggiolina and James Baroud are bloody nicely made but prety expensive.
I have looked at a few of the fancy ones like James Baroud Auto Roof Tents - Home
These have afwe different size options and use gas struts to lift the roof up. But over $4 grand.

Yes I have a home made rooftop camper (not by me). Found it on ebay about 5 years ago. Always wanted a rooftop camper but didn't want to spend the $$$ that the maggiolinas etc were going for. (and they're too heavy IMO). This one is awesome quality made from aluminium checkerplate, all corners welded. Heavy canvas with skirts so sheds water perfectly during rain. Huge internal flaps both sides and at end for variable ventilation. Insect screens all round. Not sure how much it weighs but is light (i can lift it up and down by myself, albeit a little ungainly!). Probably about 30kg. I lined it inside top and bottom with marine carpet so condensation isn't an issue any more. I don't feel it offroad or on the highway and makes no wind noise. Mattress, doona and pillows stay in there. Set up in 30 seconds. Pack up in about 2 minutes. Gas struts need replacing. You wont see me in a swag again! :)

Pros of mine: Dont need to tow a trailer.

Pros of yours: Holds more stuff and you dont need to climb up or down from great height when you're crissed as a picket! :D

Roof top tent has always been my #1 dream of having one day for camping etc... The sheer bulk and price of one always deterred me.
But something like this Plasnart is very cool indeed.

Yeah i originally wanted a rooftop tent but they were too bulky for me and too heavy. This is a lightweight slimline solution. I can go nuts offroad without a large load swinging around up there, but everythings a compromise. A rooftop tent would be more spacious and comfy.

The only thing I don't like about it is you can't have direct privacy awnings like you can with a fold out RTT..
But.. it is simple and lightweight, virtually a swag on the roof..

Never been a fan of any RTT but Plasnarts looks ok, but you still need to climb up and down a ladder.
Plasnart if its only you up top sleeping,, can I suggest either a hospital pee bottle ,, or make up a hose and funnel
so it reaches under the Patrol.
That one in the link I put is 75kg plus say 3 x roof bars to support it.

Plus my one is fully self sufficient with onboard water [55ltrs] onboard 12v power,[100ah]
with plenty of solar to back it up, plus a MP3/USB for some late night tunes
