View Full Version : Storage Boxes?

I'm looking for a couple of good quality storage boxes. Plastic, with lids that clip on or lock down somehow, sort of the size of the good old 55-60litre Nelly Bin, but a bit better quality, and with a flat lid.

Want to use them for camp gear out of the back of the truck/trailer etc. so they can sit around camp and be strong enough for kids to sit on, fillet fish on, etc. etc.

I may yet just use Nelly Bins, but was wondering if anyone out there had found something just that bit better without going to heavy and expensive things like Pelican Boxes/Cases.

Any ideas?

Will be following this thread :)

I just store my food and camping gear in cheap plastic storage boxes and getting over the fact they break easy.

I was thinking about knocking up some alloy storage boxes, but I'm sure it will be expensive 2 do.

Good luck with the search and report back what you come up with

Not a lot so far! And yes, I've had the same problem with the cheap boxes.

It seems to me that drawers are great for some, or for constant traveling, but they prevent being able to move stuff out of the truck and into a camp. I was thinking of knocking up a draw type framework, but using some sort of better quality box instead of drawers. The other downside of drawers is they don't come out very easily when home and the vehicle is being used as a daily driver.

Searching the internet for plastic boxes brings up a million hits on crap, so I was hoping someone might have come across something and be able to point me in the right direction.

hahaha yeh just tried that, I need boxes to sit nicely in the camping trailer but also strong enough not to have the lids / container break every time we go camping, which isn't very often :(

I have just removed my drawers from the rear. Ehile they were great on trips away i just wasn't getting the best use from them. In the past i have used Nelly bins and at there best they were ok. I am going to bite the bullet and use Pelican (or like) bins from Bunnings. They are solid, light, water and dust proof and stackable. Which means they can be in or out of the vehicle when travelling and should comply with regulations when on Fraser. Just more expensive, but should last the distance.

FNQGU have you looked at using the cheaper blow moulded ice boxes as storage boxes, very strong. IMO

daggy never been a fan of drawers, oh Ive had them but just a waste of weight and space if you ask me
I prefer boxes dedicated to different purposes

They look good, nice and strong.
I've been using milk crates lately for putting food in the camper trailer. Not ideal because they have no lid but they are working.

they're doing the job so far, strong enough for the kids to sits on...... but at the end of the day they're only plastic so could crack I reckon, depending on how they're treated.

Ideally you want them to be stackable, maybe the ppl who sell those blow moulded ice boxes sell them as seconds.
might be worth investigating,
Id rate them as strong as Space cases or the RV branded ones that the ADF use

Yeh if I got 2 of the same ones from supercheap. One for tools / camping gear etc and the other for food stuff

If you're after alloy boxes can I suggest you try typing in "Roadie boxes" somewhere.
I picked up a few [lockable for $50 each} ATM its storing the lambs wool seat covers from the Patrol.
When I googled the brand and pt number they retailed at $600 new.
As a bonus they are dust and water proof as well.

EG if you compare the price to say a space case I think they are fair,,,http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Australian-Roadie-6RU350-Alloy-composite-Amplifier-Case-/231723014762?hash=item35f3c49a6a:g:8gsAAOSwl9BWIax i

You would sell heaps with the right price, all it needs to be is dust proof as good as it can be,
with a couple of over-centre catches.
Whats a good size 450mm wide by 700mm long by 450mm high, spring load
handles on each end what price you think ????$$$$$
no welding required just fold and rivet with some silicon

I always look at the Super Cheap Alloy range but they are all a tad too big
Too big is no good they need to be able to be manageable by one person

Dodgy bastard, but would make it cheaper.

I'd rather learn 2 weld and give myself practice and weld it fully :)

Good points. I was thinking plastic to save the interior a bit. Some of those Alloy boxes would be shite on the rest of the gear packed around them.

I saw these on a camper trailer advert, but buggered if I can find out who makes/sells them. Wonder if the camper trailer mob would sell just the boxes...

Found them! Lockable, stackable, with a sealed lid. Look pretty solid. $40.00ea.
