Brake Oil is Leaking!

Hi Guys,

I just discovered the my RB30 PATROL needs some attention with the brake plumbing system.
Apparently there's a leak between the master pump and the brake booster.
The oil is visible on the brake booster body behind the brake master pump, and has been slowly dripping down the booster outer body towards bottom end of the engine bay. It's not gushing oil out, but still bad enough to cause the brake warning light to come one on when I brake suddenly or take sharp bends.
I topped up the brake oil on the master pump for the time being.

What is the likely cause?
How should I approach on fixing the oil leak?

Check out the price for a master cylinder kit from vendors on this site or eBay. Don't let it go or it may fail completely and suddenly.

Hi!

I have had the same situation when the cap of brake master cylinder where broken.
Check the cap firstly.

I gave it a wash and checked to see whether it's still leaking, but it I can't see any oil marks yet.
It's a very slow leak by the looks of it. Touching around the joint between booster and master cylinder
didn't produce any oil residue on my fingers.

I'm wondering,
Is there a way to fix this by replacing a(the) seal between master cylinder line between the booster &
the master cylinder?!!!

Sorry this is a bit late but I`m in the middle of WA and the coverage is sparse.
Looking at your problem,the master cylinder is leaking past the rear seal.
I would suggest that a new cylinder be fitted,(yes kits are available, but if the bore is damaged in any way they should not be honed as there is a corrosive resistant coating and this is removed when honed) There are companies that fit stainless steel sleeves to the bore but these do wear out over time, but are a very good alternative to a new one (depending on price)
Personally I would fit a new one as it should last at least 7+years

I gave it a good wash last week and have been monitoring it since then.
I'm yet to see or feel any leaking oil from where it showed the leakage.
I'm picking up a new one anyway.
I'm thinking about waiting to see how long it takes to see the leakage.
Also keeping an eye on oil level. I put a mark on the reservoir so I can notice it easily.

not much to say after Pearcey's reply but having had, over the years about God knows how many leaking brake master cylinders, they show up in the strangest of places.
Really, the sums are simple. If you're losing brake (or clutch) master fluid look for the leak, as you've done Dom.
Anywhere up high, it's the master, anywhere down low it's the slave.
New replacement usually was emy choice but regardless, do something as it will only get worse.

Thanx mate. Yes, that's what I'm doing. I'm replacing it, as it's not worth the trouble trying to rebuild them.
