Guys,

I have a 2007 3L and I have oil leaking from where the dipstick tube connects to the top of the sump.
Is it possible to remove the dipstick tube without draining the oil first ?

Why don't you want to drain the oil, if it's necessary?
AFAIK, you should be able to remove it without draining oil, but not sure about all the engines.

I always thought they were a press fit, clean it with
de-greaser and use the right lock-tite product to secure it
The one one my SBC was is the block
I would think the oil level would be below , remove the dip stick and size it up,,,,lol

Oil level is below the bottom of the dipstick tube, so you shouldn't have to drain it to remove the tube unless its overfull. Anyway as tre cani says why not just seal it up with a loktite.

thanks guys.

i have just had the oil changed, so didn't want to remove the oil. guess the guy who did the oil change moved the tube somehow, as it was not leaking before. still trying to find a good mechanic in north gold coast.

think i will remove, clean and loctite. see how it goes.

thanks for the advice.

Or you could clean it with a good solvent to remove any oil residue & use a loctite product, epoxy, silicone sealant product, etc to seal it up. Carby cleaner or thinner is better at removing oil residue than petrol.

Not much holds them in there's just an o ring where it goes in the block and the little clamp that secures the tube further up. We just put some silicon gasket sealant when we put the one on roofys motor, pretty sure there's no leaks so far.

Possibly blow-by leaking from the rocker cover breathers, either the one to the air cleaner or the PCV?!
