G'Day all,
wanting to get advice on the most logical steps to increase power/torque in a factory 4.2 intercooled trubo diesel G.U. And where is recommended to get the work done, preferably in bris or on gold coast .

she has had a dyno, 3" exhaust, and pyro fitted by AMMS about 4 years ago.
From memory she is now pumping out a neck breaking 100kw !

Ute has only done 120,000km.

as were now towing a 2ton van around, she is a bit lacking up big hills.
although the EGT never gets above 550 max, and water temp never changes.

Id like to increase power without going nuts, and reducing engine life.

your input greatly appreciated !

Cheers, Marty.

G'day Marty. Welcome to the forum.
Plenty of people here to help you out.
Although, You may be waiting on an answer for a few days as a lot of the experts are at the forum piss-up today/tonight. Nissannewby seems to know the 4.2's inside out so, I dare say he'll responds next few days.

As for my experience, I too had 3" fitted, EGR blocked and then dynotuned and she returned 100kw! Car went great after that, really opened her up and dropped EGT's. I'm happy with the power, nothing over the top and safe and sustainable. Now I've got the bigger cooler fitted and there is more potential now.
Next steps would be increasing the throat (air intake) girth and obviously the expensive stuff like upgrading turbo and pump.

As I said people in the know how will reply later. But do a quick search also, plenty of threads on the same topic.

I've done a bigger inter-cooler and 4" snorkel attached to the factory Airbox Marty. After fitting these I then took it to get Dyno tuned see the attached report. The acceleration is much greater now and puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. I have bigger plans yet but need funds to keep going.

Whether its enough for your van I couldn't tell you. The other thing to consider is if you have put bigger tyres on i.e. 33" have you looked at your diff ratios?

welcome to the Forum Marty

depending on what year your 4.2 is, will help in determining what you best direction to go

is it a N/A (Naturally Aspirated) with Turbo fitted
or Factory Turbo
or Factory Turbo & Intercooled............

how much Boost are you running...........

what size Tyres...........

what Diff ratio's do you have...........

these will help the more knowledgeable people than me help you....

Blocking the egr or removing it and removing it the intake butterfly is one of the best mods you can do for engine longevity.
