Hey all need some help over here!!
Got a strange one to go over and need as much advice as I can get.

I've noticed over the last month or so that when I let the weight roll onto the handbrake with the motor still running the entire truck starts to vibrate and rattle. And it stops instantly when I release the handbrake and roll back onto the service brakes.
On top of that I've also been noticing a putrid burning smell (like burning rubber almost) when Im giving it a bit of stick. Wondering if it might be electrical because the air con, fan, right indicators and one of my head lights have all blown or stopped working, but no fuses have popped.
I've also noticed when shining a torch through the holes on the right chassis rail I can see a smokey hase flowing through it and at night you can see it wafting across the brake light. Only on the right hand side though.

Sorry about the essay here folks, but I just find it odd that all of this has started happening around the same time. The old girl is a 1992 Granroad Safari (24v, auto, turbo, silvertop). I can't figure any of it out but maybe one of you gurus can.
Cheers, Dylan

What condition is your alternator in it may be over charging??
Are all your belts in good nick, and not slipping

Cheers for the reply, all the belts are good and not slipping, no squeal either. I know the power steering one slips a little on cold muggy days but is in good condition and otherwise never slips. And the charge is good, i think, the voltage never goes above 28v tops, 27 when ive got the stereo, amp and lights on. Not sure how high the amperage goes though. I think the smell might be coming out from under the cover above the right front wheel beside the right battery. Maybe something cooked

I would probably give it a decent steam clean at the car wash,
be carefull with the high pressure hose it will push water where water
should not be pushed

I reckon the vibration will be the engine mounts, mine did the exact same thing.

Did it do it in when rolling back onto the brake as well? The vibration is also there when the engine is in gear when it is cold and at idle. Remember im in NZ and my cold mornings can be as low as 5 degrees

For vibrations I'd start with gearbox and engine mounts..
I think it's normally the left hand ones which fail..
But while your at it might aswell change all 4..
Just ensure you have the correct motor mounts as gq came with a 2 bolt and 4 bolt mount to chassis..

Smoke.. well that's not good..
The only thing I can think of is clutch..

And electrical well I'll leave that.. my history with electronics is not good lol..

No, it only vibrated when it was resting on the handbrake.

Mine did a bit, but new mounts eliminated it and made resting on handbrake noise much much better..

Maybe by renewing a few earth straps in and around the engine bay,
may and a big maybe, ,might help any electrical problem

After having a look Im starting to think that the smokey shit is coming from the crank case breather which vents out pretty much right into the chassis rail.

It seems that the general consenses on the vibration both here and around town is with the mounts, and the electrical gremlin is just that. Just bad luck and coincidence that its all happening right. now.

Cheers for the feed back guys
