As you all know the new motor went in a few weeks ago
with bleeding the Turbo getting oil through the system
we killed the battery had to jump start after that
battery was getting on so bought a new one BUT was a bit
suss when I put it in didn't spin as fast as I expected but
thought with a couple of runs it would get up to speed
Well went to start up yesterday DEAD not happy Jan
its sat for 2days everything off no indercator in the
battery that green light now waiting for auto lect
any idea what it could be

Could be a faulty battery, have you got a multimeter to check if there is a current draw while the engine is off?
My Patrol did this a while ago, turned out to be a faulty diode inside the alternator.

Take the new Battery back to where you got it from and have them test it or replace it if they can't test it.

Make sure the 'new' one you put in is fully charged IE 90% or better.

Did you use your 'old' Alternator or is it a different one that came with the engine or elsewhere?

Don't rely on an Alternator based charging system to bring a 'flat' battery back up to full charge esp if the draw down has been high current.

When you get the new battery in, check the charging voltage at the battery Terminals with the engine running

Can you borrow a charger in the meantime? It might just need a really good charge but if it is a bit sick then the cold weather will hurt it

Winnie

Have you got a multimeter there? I can drop in on the way home this arvo, about 5pm?
Just keep it on the charger now and we can do a few quick tests.

So you've had it running since the start of this thread?

When it wouldn't start did things like the interior light and headlights still work?. When you turn the ignition on, did the alternator and MIL warning lights come on in the dash?.

It may pay to check the main earth lead to the engine is clean and tight.

Do you want me to pop in Roofy?

mate when you fit the new one just check the charge voltage just to make sure you haven't lost the regulator. I had that happen and it was charging at 19volts plus and cooked the battery.

Very unusual for a battery to be a dud, but I don't really know too much about them.

Concerned it's in the car as suggested, but more than happy to be proven wrong.

You don't need this!

They can be a bugger to lift in at the best of times,LOL
Just a reminder to wipe the posts with a green scourer.
Did it have much crud under the battery ???
Did you get the same brand as a replacement.??

Do you grease the terminals? Never know whether to cover the post before fitting the clamp and then cover the lot or not do it at all.

squirt of crc does the same

You'll find new batteries have a protective coating that needs to be removed,
I usually squirt a small bit of terminal spray when finished, weather proofs the lot.
Even Lanotec will work,,,,, great product IMO LOL

I've just had a 120 ah dual purpose one shat itself only 4 months old..
It just started self draining and in the end nothing would bring it up in charge..
Got it replaced and so far it seems good..

The battery your being sold will always be their oldest stock first.
unless the person selling it to you is a mate, then they'll give you the newest one hay!.

If they don't sell many batteries it could be a couple yrs old sitting on the shelf before you buy it.
and who recons it's been maintained properly while on the shelf.
m2cw.
Ive been observing a few batteries sitting out the front of the local autopro store, they are so old the cases are fading.
