Hey Guys,

My heat gauge on a 89 safari sits just under half but when I'm on a steep incline it raises and then come back down when on a straight... Is this normal?

Also is the overflow bottle pressurised as mine has a hole on the top.

The stock gauges are average at the best of times on patrols..
Personally I'd run a second aftermarket gauge to get propped readings..

But if your system is coming back down to normal temps quite quickly then I'd don't think there is an issue..

And as per the other reply, if the radiator has the pressure cap on it then the overflow doesn't need to be pressurized.

Agree with bigqwesty, oem gauge is a bit hit and miss, temperature rises 15 - 20 degrees Celsius before the thing moves then it moves quickly. Use a digital readout on the "A" pillar for piece of mind.

Yeah I would not rely on the OE gauge buy an aftermarket one.
When mine was very hot today the OE gauge read half, but I have
an after market gauge ready to be wired up.
When you go up hill you put a strain on the system as its working hard ,temps rise
then when you return to flat ground or down hill your temps will recover to
normal,
