View Full Version : Prank ideas - blown up/smoky engine.

So a few of us got pranked at work by this individual. He got us pretty good. So naturally, retaliation is in order.
This bloke loves his hilux. So obviously this is the target. We got this idea to make it appear like it's cooked somehow.
We talked about squirting oil or something all over the engine, or even coolant to make it appear it's got a massive leak or head is blown.
Diesel mechanic at work suggested squirting some diesel into his exhaust and when it heats up it'll smoke pretty good... I'm all for this! He comes away camping with us all the time so, we figured we'd do this in the middle of the high country for extra bit of kick....

Anyone heard or done this before?? We don't wanna blow the thing up, as much as we'd like to. Just something that'll make him s*** for a little bit .....

Any other ideas here will be most welcome!

Heard of it done to a young bloke with a loud motor bike. They squirted some oil into the exhaust. Apparently it took a bit to start smoking but once going it was magnificent. I wouldn't suggest putting oil on the engine though as it might damage something.

The plastic 10mm cable tie on the tail shaft is a quickie but a good one.

What about hard wiring in the horn with a switch where someone can turn it off and on at will?

Have used cable tie trick before. Works great.

Have always wanted to wire up a horn to the brake or indicator lights. Just imagine him sitting at the lights horn blaring.

Thanks for the suggestions folks.
Zippy tie trick is getting very old in our workplace as they are one of our main tools. (we run cables all day every day). He would be onto it in a heart beat.

We need something more elaborate and in-depth. Just had a good chat with some workmates, over a few beers and the smoke out of exhaust seems like the way to go.
So need something that'll spew out white-ish (or any kind) out of the exhaust as it warms up. So far diesel is the go, but pumping too much in, supposedly can ignite and go boom if it reaches the cat???

So far, (if this is what we run with) the idea is to squirt some into the exhaust, during the morning before hes up or something and when the car warm up later on it'll appear as if it's cooked sending him into a frenzy!! Payback is a bitch..... LOL.

Not if you zip tie a nut onto one of his wheels or the tail shaft so they run out of balance.

Do you have access to smoke bombs?

mudnut
2nd April 2016, 09:15 PM
If you do go the oil in pipe do a few tests so you know you're not gunna cause a fire. Only a little bit of oil will make a lot of smoke.

Is there a throttle pedal stopper that van be wound out on those? Or could you tape something behind the throttle pedal so he feels like he's pushing it to the boards but there's no power or revs? Just something thick enough so that he has to go back a gear earlier than normal. Then carry a small bottle of coolant each and let a bit dribble on the ground every time he parks. That would be a good one.

The coolant idea is only to add to the "loss of power" and thus a suspect head issue.... Do it!

Also I think it's slightly common for those d4d to suffer a bit of injector troubles that show up as a lack of power

Not sure you guys should be giving ideas on how to fake a blown motor
or noise. Someone may do it and actually blow a motor up, maybe better
to do via a PM, sorry to be a spoil fun but not a fan at all on what you're
planning to do.

Some blokes in the know how, (mechanically minded) like above can do it and do it well and safely :-) !

My experience, a couple of so called mates, inserted (ouch :-( ) a $2 joke shop whistle deep up my exhaust years ago for a laugh and forgot about owning up to it when sober.

Took me ages to find/source the issue out and carbon filled my pride and joy :-( !!

I think the title of the thread explains what's going on. I don't think it's possible to blow up an engine with any of the above methods.
There are plenty of procedures and advice on this forum that if not executed correctly will result in damage to the vehicle and they are in honest threads. This one is clearly stated as a practical joke.
If practical jokes aren't your thing then just let the rest of us have a laugh.
It's just a bit of harmless fun at the expense of someone that pranked first.

#3 go to work

That might sound funny, but if the spark hasn't got anywhere to go it can track and cause fallure to the coil, distributor or leads, which is no joke.

If your taking home bush build it slowly..
Start off with a few small puddles under the car..
Next day if safe to do so limit his pedal a little.. keep the puddles under car going..
Day 3 is the big one..
Restrict peddle more, add oil to exhaust and puddles. Under car..

That's should have him shitting bricks

Glycol should make lots of smoke without the fire risk.

This moron is our superior, so he's the bloke right above me. Late thursday night, he convinced us that our Fridays (April 1st) job can start at 3am if we wanted to. Our normal starts are 730... His fabricated idea was to start 3 and finish 11.30.
Early friday finish, sounds good to me... ! So as you can imagine we rocked up at 3 and the work folder had a "April Fools!! See you at 730!!" sticky note on it..... Yeah we fell for it. Ok....

But as it turns out karma took it's course without us doing a thing ...
Bad thing for him now is the higher management got a word of what took place. So they pulled him into the office and ripped him a new one, so hes shitting bricks, this is a good thing. But the bad thing for him is he picked a wrong time to do it as there is a lot of tension at work right now with retrenching and re-structure so they are looking for any reason to get rid of blokes. According to some of our policies, this was classed as harassment.

Technically the 3 of us that came in at 3 could have claimed O/T from 3-7.30 if we wanted to, but none of us did as after all it was this idiots bad idea of a prank. I really didn't give a shit tbh, but some of the other boys are absolutely ropeable. One of them have a tiny baby at home so he was up most of the night anyway... Not happy.

So he's already copping it. Nothing will happen he won't get the sack, but everyone is going with the idea that he is, so hes panicking... Justice served.

However, back to original topic. This won't stop us for round 2 we have decided. He absolutely loves the hilux, so our prank is full steam ahead....
At this stage, on our next camping trip and GoPro's will be around to catch the moment, we will try.

Meh, the c***s act was him telling you to come into work 4.5 hours early.
But getting him back via his Hilux is probably just as good. (it would be even funnier if it ACTUALLY blows up while you are away)

So need something that'll spew out white-ish (or any kind) out of the exhaust as it warms up.

as i recall, a ping pong ball wrapped in alfoil with a funnel in the top made a hell of alotta white smoke, we used to make em as smoke bombs when we were kids. not sure if the exhaust would heat up enuff to start the melt process tho.

BigRAWesty
4th April 2016, 10:53 AM
That is a bit of a shit act but as you say if he's not a bad bloke then best keep him around..

The ping pong ball in alfoil is a wicked smoke bomb..
But usually lit with an open flame..
I'd say best chance of light up would be the manifold.. but if he's still got the factory heat shield I doubt you'll get anything in close enough. .

I am personally liking smoke in exhaust and brake light horn..
Both easy to carry out with a great outcome..

If in the high country a limited rpm range may become dangerous on some of those tracks...

Yeah, against tampering with any "functionality" of the car. Definitely won't go there. Exhaust oil smoke is the go... That'll be enough to send him into overdrive.
Last time in Jamieson his Ctek solenoid was stuck shut and drained both his batteries, and then when his car didn't start he nearly took a week off on stress leave. Loves is shit lux! So the smoke thing will be a direct hit !! lol

Just an update, this may eventuate end of the month as we are planning a trip to the VHC. He's already stressing as his rear diff cover is weeping oil so , a bit of smoke out of the exhaust will just add a bit of sour taste.
Hope I'll be there, depending on if my clutch gets done by then. (Ironic I'm excited to get this bloke back on his car, but I have issues with my car which might not get me there lol). Oh well.

Potassium nitrate (stump killer) and sugar melted on a low ...low heat and not in your house. Makes the best smoke bomb. Burns with a thick white smoke if you want a slower burn add some wax but half a coke can size will burn for over 5 mins easy with a lot of smoke can also be coloured with crayons

A twist on the cable tie is to lay one flat against the shaft and use another one to secure the tag end, trim the second one off flush, it only make a noise at speed & then lays back flat when you stop & have a look.

Supposedly they didn't even make it to the campsite and the very Hilux in question spat out rear diff cogs ... lol
