Hi all,im going to convert my patrol over to the mighty td42-t im just curious to know if anyone has successfully got their patrol conversion passed with an earlier (gq) td42,i spoke to the vehicle modification fella and he said that i didnt have to take my car to an engineer as it came out with the td42,i mentioned that the enine mounts need cutting and he just said get a competent welder to weld them on and once the conversion was done take the patrol to my local service station/inspection station to have a general road worthy and if everything is good ,just take him the paperwork and he can provide me with the new engine number,so im just wondering how they know the engine is from an earlier patrol.

You're probably after advice from people in Tasmania. Here in QLD, I put a 96 GQ TD42T (factory turbo) into my 2001 4.5 and simply filled out the form for engine change and took it to QLD Main Roads dept. they simply noted the change of fuel type and changed engine number. Took 5 mins, they didn't even want to check the number, just took my word for it..

Ok cool i wish it was that simple for me,i just called service tas and the fella told me to fill out a proposed engine swap form and if he is happy with the proposed swap he will aprove it in principle and then if it passes a roadworthy i can have it registered,so ill get the paper work tomorrow and fill it out.
