Anyone reapired a Vinyl tear before?

I have a small tear in the door trim. Its somehow almost perfectly square at about 10mm. Three out of the four side of the square is torn. I see those repair kits on fleabay but not sure on what they are like. I'm not expecting it to be repair to perfect. I got a quote to repair it, for $150.... A second hand trim is $50. But, can't find onein my trim type and colour.

Super glue is your friend, and a colour coded wax crayon

EDIT don't you use the blade/knife on your soldering iron
and gentle melt some plastic of a similar colour then
smooth it out a tad
