Hey guys,

Would you rather buy a one of below ebay CV joint or
would you rather buy a used one?

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Outer-CV-Joints-For-Nissan-Patrol-GQ-Y60-Constant-Velocity-Joint-LH-RH-1988-1997-/291545643703?hash=item43e1797ab7:g:XbMAAOSwjVVV19Q s&rmvSB=true&rmvSB=true

What is the best approach for a CV joint replacement from the above two choices?

Thanx

From what I've been told, unless upgrading to chromoly or similar, genuine used is the go. Never done it myself though.

If you go used, see if you can get the axle as well, save you pressing them in. Plus then you have spares you can take wheeling :)

I would grab used too. The GQ CVs are cheap second hand. I would Never bother with just a CV though, you won't find one second hand that is not attached to the axle. Buy them in Long and short but complete.

A good CV is easy to check visually for damage and also for action and feel. If it is even slightly stiff in its action then it may have been hot and swollen. leave it there, its worn out. also small cracking or pitting in the cage around the ball is common damage and again leave it.

If you find a good pair them buy them, clean them out and repack them and good to go. If the ones coming out are OK them repack them and wrap them in plastic and store them under the back seat as spares.

Refer to my DYI CV thread in the DIY Mechanical section for what you need to know about swivel hub rebuilds.

Thanx guys.

So, in a nutshell, a good genuine secondhand one is the way to go?

How do I know the secondhand one is genuine one or not?
