Today I was busy wrapping my extractors with heat shield wrap.

To improve access I took part of the air intake off. I was wondering if anyone could explain what purpose this chamber on the side serves. Dose it swirl the air to remove moisture. But there's no drain.
I don't know, just curious if someone could explain.

It's like a storage chamber of fresh air so when you boot it the engine has a small supply air already filtered..
Also aids in intake noise..

So really..
A waste of space lol

I've still got mine on, so if I was to remove it would it make any difference good or bad?

Dont remove it. They are designed like that for a reason and for the most part work very well.

Very top of motor hanging off the air pipe from the air filter to the inlet manifold. Sits directly above 5 and 6 exhaust ports.

Oh ok mine obviously doesn't have one. I'd say due to the gas conversion

I've got LPG and so does Jay see

Could be depending on the system used and how it was installed..

Could always chase one up and fit it. Would be interesting to see what kind of difference you get.

No, it is a chamber to reduce resonance in the inlet system, they are on the vast majority of cars and are there to keep them quiet. You could remove it an the worst that would happen was that you might find a drone at a certain RPM and throttle opening. Google automotive resonance chamber for lots of info.

I have a suspicion it stays with injected gas and goes with a mixer. Interesting because I'm ripping my gas out in a few weeks and wonder if I'll have to get one

Have seen them on eBay, and they are expensive as. Some cheap Chinese junk ones are cheaper but are they really worth it.

Might need to ask who ever you get your gas system de-certified, whether he wants it full factory or will pass it without the pipe. Guy I spoke to wants full factory.

Yeah will find out in a few days. At this stage looks like he doesn't care but will wait and see

I have the mixer system of LPG and it's still there on mine. The LPG gets mixed with the air after that mysterious box.

Ok well there goes that theory. In that case I have no idea

Hence my comment. I knwo someone who flow tested a setup of an ls1 powered commodore. With just a peice of 4" pipe from the airbox to throttle body it flowed nearly half of what it did with the standard pipe with the ugly box hanging off it.
