Hi ,

I am replacing the exhaust manifold gasket on my 4.2 litre gq patrol. I have been informed the new age exhaust gasket are crap.

So I was told to out another product on the exhaust manifold gasket to extend its life. Has anyone heard of this before? And if so the product?

Also looking to understand the torque of each bolt/ nut when I retighten the manifold.

Thanks,
Rob

the new gasket i got looks identical to the originals. so far so good, tight enough so they don't rattle off.
looks like http://www.atocauto.com.au/proddetail.asp?prod=KNTD42EGNA but they were $40 ish

i didn't use anything just cleaned up both surfaces and boom no leaks

Torque value for the exhaust studs is 25-29Nm
Heat shield is 7-9Nm.
Sometimes ppl smear a little RTV on each side
but a new gasket with clean surfaces should be fine
