Hi, in my 97 gq rd28 m65185y glow plug light continues to flash after starting until engine gets up to temp, I tested the relays as per picture I have added and found relay no. 2 did not have continuity between terminals 3 and 4 which it should so I ordered a brand new 1 from Nissan I picked up yesterday and have found it is the same, no continuity between terminals 3 and 4, I installed into vehicle and it does the same thing, glow light flashes until engine up to temp, I just rang Nissan and said I think the part they sent me is faulty, they said to get a new relay ,again I have to pay for another relay and they send the other 1 away to b tested and if Nissan finds it faulty then they give me my money back. Just wanted some reassurance from some1 here that may have a bit more knowledge than me that I'm right in saying there is something wrong with this relay, I don't wanna pay 4 2 relays and end up with same prob
Thanks in advance

Assuming that your ohmmeter is working correctly and you do have it on the correct pins.
Yes there should be continuity between pins 3 and 4 on relay 2 (5 pin relay) in the rest position.
Have you recently replaced the glow plugs?

Yeh the ohmmeter is working properly, as far as I know it is actually brand new so I would think it's working properly and yeh all in the right pins, I even referred back to manual for the meter to ensure was in right postion.
Haven't recently replaced glow plugs had a rebuild some time ago and I had just discovered that the mechanic had put the glow plugs in wrong spots, (I'm assuming you know how this system works) so I have put them back in correct spots , before I did that I tested the resistance on each glow plug which came up fine.

I'm guessing that you have the insulators on incorrectly between the short rail and long rail busbars. This can cause a short in relay 2 and blow the connection inside.
Remove the cover off your old relay. There should be a braided wire strap linking the terminals. Is this still intact or has it been blown apart?

I will go check now, I'm not sure about the insulators , i don't know really know how they r supposed to b,

How does the insulators go correctly between the short rail and the long rail buz bars?? I can't get the cover off this relay without destroying the cover and I wanted to sort keep on intacked incase I need to put back on to take this other 1 back

Sorry I don't have a picture. I suspect you have the short and long busbars touching one another.

Ok thanks I'll check that out, if that is indeed the case are there some non conductive washers or something I could buy to fit in between the 2? Or is there something specific I need?

You should be able to make something up if need be. Not sure if you can still buy the genuine ones.

Yeh that is the problem, it's missing 1 of this little washers and the r touching on the 4th cylinder

Hey, so I've just purchased another relay from Nissan and again it is not showing any continuity thro terminals 3 and 4, it is actually showing some continuity in terminal 3 and 5 which as far as I know should only show continuity there with power. I find it hard to believe that I could of bought 2 dodgy relays from Nissan , is there something I'm missing here??? I haven't installed it yet, just want to work out y I ain't getting any continuity thro terminals 3 and 4

So many threads plus the PMs it's hard to keep up with it all.
Have you removed the cover of your old glow plug relay no. 2 yet?
Maybe you need to get an auto electrician to check the relays for you.
Do you have the wires connected correctly to the busbars?. The red wire should be connected to the short busbar and the white wire should be connected to the long busbar.

Yeh I have pulled the cover off and that braided wire is still in tack , I have installed the new 1 since and still not working , I have installed the 1 with no cover and the number 2 relay operates aswell as the number 1 relay, wen first glowing for start up but after start up is not energized

Are the red and white wires connected correctly?
