RightO,
Belt and idler pulley brand new
Replaced egr pipe that was Badly split. Annnd the bastard bolt i snapped
I still have this bloody squeal that goes away 30 seconds after driving and getting a little bit of boost up. If i just idle along and dont let the boost get above 4 there's no noise.
What else could it be. If it was intercooler or pipes it'd do it the whole time wouldnt it?
Starting to give me the shits now

Air con pully bearing
alternator
exhaust manifold =get a piece of water hose
and place along manifold and carefully listen
its usually up the front

Warped exhaust manifold heats up seals the gap no more noise
More common on the CRD than the mighty Di lol

Do you have boost gauge???
I can see why you have trouble with bolts they way you talk about them lol

Exhaust manifold leak,
Alternator Sprag Clutch,
A/C Comp Bearing

when I had the alternator noise you wouldnt think twice about the noise.
ended up shearing the alternator shaft off.

But John you don't put your truck in places that growler dose
could be Loveday dust or mud in the alternator or a crappy
belt drip some water onto it and see if the squeal goes away

Yeah it doesnt do it unless youre accelerating and moving, it wont do it stationary and revving it

Manifold then might want machining

Have a look where the dump pipe meets the turbo, mine split along the weld
holding the flange on, about where your EGT bung is.
Thinking that your EGT probe isnt loose is it???

Well thats how you fix em.. lol
Lets update and get a GU oh yeah lol

Um John he has 3l already

I reckon a boost leak.
Sounds very very similar to a squeal I had a couple of years ago which was a loose clamp on the crossover pipe.

Did that go away when it got warm Poo?

I dont have an egt gauge. Im using the scan gauge for boost etc

Nah mine was consistent.
Long shot but maybe you have a crack in the manifold or something and when it gets hot it expands and seals?

Heres where mine cracked, just out of sight is the EGT bung

It does sound exhaust issue..
What have you done on exhaust side??
Any gaskets?

there was a guy on here ages ago with a simular prob me thinx he remebers......was a little rubber pipe that came of somehwre and went somewhere......Nah sorry...just under the intercooler not sure if it went where but...disticly remeber him with a pic of the pipe in his thread,

To check if its exhaust manifold related just take a rag and partially block the exhaust while its idling. If there's a leak in the system it will squeal again.
That's how I finally found where the squeal in my CRD was coming from.

Havent touched it! The egr pipe was split 3/4 around and with a new one theres no difference in this noise???

So it's quite possibly as little as a gasket?

You have the EGR blocked anyway dont you???

Yeah but the split was on passengers side, the egr is blocked at the drivers side, so the pipe still gets exhaust gas

I have a loud squealing coming from the front of a 3ltr I got last wed, driving it home the noise was very concerning but the guy I got the truck off says it was just the fan belt... After doing some reading on the friday I decided to replace the belt along with the idler pulley assembly. Started truck up no noise for about 15 minutes then it started again, If I spray some belt grip on the belt noise goes away. but then returns either a few hours later or when I start it again. any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. Alternator is near new air con doesn't work but I can see the belt pulley turning. If I spray even the smallest about of lube or anything at the back of the fan so it blows over the belts and pulleys the sound goes away....I'm already regretting swapping my 4.2 for this truck...

its either your alternator pulley ,tensioner pulley bearing. What brand belt did you fit Gates or OE would be the only choices

Sir Roofy
20th December 2016, 09:49 AM
Did you replace the belt with an oe
my theory on this is the thickness and
depth of the groves has some effect
on the squeal
other wise its an alternator or
air con bearing

Belt grip was probably not the best solution for a noisy belt..
Try chalk.

agree belt grip is a nasty product in some circumstances
