Has anyone had any good/bad experiences with aftermarket stubs?

The genuine ones are up near $500 and the apparent 'Japanese' made aftermarket ones are less than $200!!

Cheers

I'd buy second hand from Readies in Bendigo in a blink mate

To clarify do you mean a CV (Birfield Joint) or the Knuckle Spindle in the pic below??

Yeah I thought so. The comp guys break them a bit so are a sort after spare. I would not hesitate to buy a second hand one mate.

Mudski bought a aftermarket one.

I changed one with a s/h one when I seized the bearing.

Yeah theres a mob on eBay selling Japanese made aftermarket ones. I wanted to buy direct and sell them but was told i had to buy from the aussie distributor so i left it at that.
But im running both sides aftermarket with no issues.
In my opinion, second hand will just be worn out where the inner bearing sits against the seal runner and then you are forever tightening the bearings up.
Smities outback gear i think they are called.

Hi, I installed one last year, bought it on ebay, did 15k, and just today pulled it apart to have a look, well it as good as new, not a mark on them!! I can highly recommend them.

Yeah they are not really a wearing part. I have stripped down a 350,000km front diff and not given the stub axles a second thought! Hence I'd fit a second hand on in a blink.

The Comp guys smash them.

I think getting a good s/h one is the issue. I stripped a diff at a wreckers to find it the same as mine so kinda lost interest in the idea.

Might give the aftermarket ones a try.

Cheers for the input
